Arc shield apparatus includes a body having an abutting portion including a first side configured to abut against a lateral side of a contact arm of an electrical switching device, and a second side opposite from the first side, an aperture passing between the first and second side, the aperture configured to receive a spring tab of the contact arm therein, and an arc shield including a first shield portion extending from the first abutting portion, the first shield portion including a first contact surface configured to abut against a contact arm edge, and a second shield portion configured to shield at least some of the spring tab and spring hook. An electric vehicle charging station with a field upgradeable communications facility is provided. The invention includes a sealable housing including a first compartment and a second compartment, the second compartment including an access to an upgrade port; a partition within the housing that is adapted to insulate the first compartment from the second compartment, the partition including an opening providing access the upgrade port; and an EVSE charging station control circuit configured to recognize a communication module when coupled to the upgrade port and to use the communication module for communications if the communication module is connected. In yet another aspect, a housing body having a first front cavity and a second front cavity is provided. An inner cover covers the second front cavity, and a maximum amperage set switch is operable to set a maximum charge amperage for the electric vehicle charging apparatus. An electric vehicle charging apparatus is disclosed. The electric vehicle charging apparatus has a housing having a body, and a light guide assembly adapted to display a status of the electric vehicle charging apparatus. The light guide assembly generates and displays one or more colors, flashing lights, or combinations thereof on a light exit region of the light guide. In another aspect, a locking hinged lid configuration of the electric vehicle charging apparatus is provided. In yet another aspect, a mechanical control panel including lighted status indicators on the lid is provided. In another aspect, the electric vehicle charging apparatus has one or more low voltage terminals contained in a first front cavity under the lid, whereas high voltage components are provided in a separate second front cavity. Methods of operating the electric vehicle charging apparatus are provided, as are other aspects.

Status indicating electric vehicle charging station, lightguide assembly and methods

The electric vehicle charging apparatus has a housing having a body, and a light guide assembly adapted to display a status of the electric vehicle charging apparatus as a halo. The light guide assembly generates and displays one or more colors, flashing lights, or combinations thereof on a light exit region having a tilted side facing surface. In another aspect, a hinged lid configuration of the electric vehicle charging apparatus is provided having a mechanical control panel including lighted status indicators on the lid. An electric vehicle charging apparatus is disclosed. The electric vehicle charging apparatus has a housing having a front cavity, rear cavity, and a separating wall having a common electrical passage, wherein the rear cavity is formed by sidewalls with one sidewall having a slot formed therein. A power cord passes through the common electrical passage in the separating wall, and the power cord is configurable to provide a number of electrical connection options, such as an 'outside cord option' and a 'rear mount option.' The electronic circuit breaker has a moveable contact arm having a moveable main electrical contact, and a lockout mechanism operable to contact the moveable contact arm and block motion of thereof, the lockout mechanism having a lockout latch with one or more pivot joints, a moveable stop on, and an offset engagement portion, the moveable stop adapted to contact the moveable contact arm, and an unlock actuator providing an unlock force at the engagement portion causing lockout latch pivoting and release of the moveable contact arm. Also disclosed are secondary electrical contacts configured to engage each other in the ON configuration, with a leaf spring operably supporting a moveable one of the secondary contacts, the leaf spring configured to be flexed to close the secondary contacts. A method of operating the electronic circuit breaker is provided, as are other aspects.

Circuit breaker having an unlocking mechanism and methods of operating same

Embodiments provide an electronic circuit breaker. The electronic circuit breaker has a moveable contact arm having a moveable main electrical contact, and a lockout mechanism operable to contact the moveable contact arm and block motion of thereof, the lockout mechanism having a lockout latch with one or more pivot joints, a moveable stop, and an offset engagement portion, the moveable stop adapted to contact the moveable contact arm, and an unlock actuator providing an unlock force at the engagement portion causing lockout latch pivoting and release of the moveable contact arm. An apparatus, method and system for visually indicating a circuit breaker, such as a multi-pole circuit breaker, has been tripped are provided. An exemplary light guide comprises a plurality of light conduits adapted to transmit light from two or more light sources within a circuit breaker assembly to an exterior of the circuit breaker assembly; a beam that connects the light conduits; and one or more retention features coupled to one or more of the light conduits, wherein each retention feature is adapted to mate with a retention feature interface of the circuit breaker assembly. Multi-pole circuit breaker light guide trip indicator and installation method

Embodiments provide circuit breakers with stops adapted to prevent a lug screw from falling out of circuit breaker and/or to prevent the lug screw from blocking a wire receiver of circuit breaker lug body. In one aspect, a circuit breaker is provided having a circuit breaker housing; a lug assembly retained in the circuit breaker housing, the lug assembly including a threaded screw hole; a lug screw having driving end and a threaded shaft inserted in the threaded screw hole; and a back-out stop adapted to contact the driving end and limit an extent of backward movement of the lug screw out of the threaded screw hole.
