A protective case can be used with a mobile device having front and back surfaces and side surfaces extending between the front and back surfaces, including a top side, a bottom side, a right side, and a left side, the mobile device having a screen on the front surface. The protective case can include a shell configured to engage and substantially surround at least three of the surfaces of the mobile device and preferably all or nearly all surfaces of the mobile device while still capable of allowing the user to functionally interact with biometric sensor (such as a fingerprint sensor) and/or not interfere with the intended functionality of the proximity sensors of the mobile device.

Portable electronic device case

A protective case for a portable mobile device is disclosed. The protective case comprises a shell that defines a compartment for receiving and retaining a mobile device, a cover panel, and a connector component. The shell has a main panel that includes an aperture and a subpanel that is hinged at a first side within the aperture and reversibly attached to the aperture via mechanical protrusions or detents at a second side so that it can rotatably attach and detach, or snap, into and out of the main panel. The hinge may be formed by one or more flexible layers overlaid on the shell or via mechanical swivel joint such as a pin and socket connection. A connector portion connects the cover panel to the shell and forms a flexible spine between the cover panel and the shell. The connector portion is comprised of opposing inner and outer layers that are overlaid over the internal and external facing surfaces of the shell and cover panel. The main panel of the shell is configured to receive and retain the mobile device within its compartment and may be snap-fitted over the mobile device. In operation, the case can be opened and the subpanel detached from the main panel to allow the main panel to rotate relative to the subpanel and rest on the inner surface of the cover component to provide varied viewing/operating positions to the user.

A protective case for a mobile device having a multi-layered construction is disclosed. The multi-layered construction includes two layers co-molded to one another and produces a lightweight and low-profile case providing a high level of impact protection. The first layer generally forms the internal rigid shell of the case, and the second layer forms the external soft shell of the case which may include a perforated pattern of holes. The first layer is comprised of material that has a hardness greater than the second layer. The layers are configured to interact with one another so that they are capable of distributing and absorbing impact forces to mitigate damage to the mobile device. The first layer includes apertures in which the second layer forms buttons corresponding to mobile device user controls. The second layer also bonds through attachment openings at the corners of the first layer.

The case includes a mobile device cavity that is configured to receive and retain the mobile device and a storage cavity that extends internally from an upper portion of the case to a lower portion of the case. The protective cover is configured to receive, retain, cover, protect, and interactively support the portable wireless speaker. A plurality of embedded magnets and/or metallic elements in the speaker and cover are configured and aligned to magnetically secure the protective cover around the portable wireless speaker in the fully closed position and facilitate secure positioning of the speaker in a stand position during use. Other audio, video and computing electronics including tablet and smart phones may also be similarly protected and supported by such a cover configured to the particular dimensions of the electronic device.
