A crossover for ducting exhaust produced by an engine. The crossover includes a front inside passage and rear outside passage. The front inside passage is configured to direct exhaust from one or more cylinders associated with a front of the engine to an inside volute of a turbocharger turbine. The rear outside passage is configured to direct exhaust from one or more cylinders associated with a rear of the engine to an outside volute of the turbocharger turbine. The inside volute is closer to the rear of the engine than the outside volute is.

A powertrain for a machine is disclosed. The powertrain has a power source and a transmission that is operably connected to the power source. The powertrain also has a differential that is operably connected to the transmission. The powertrain further has a first and second shaft that are operably connected to the differential. The first and second shaft respectively actuate a plurality of traction devices. The powertrain also has a clutch associated with the differential and configured to selectively reduce a total traction available to the machine by releasing the differential as a function of a torque produced by the power source.

System for protecting a powertrain

Some engine applications place spatial constraints on heat exchangers, such as oil coolers. In such a case, a heat exchanger having an oblong rather than a circular cross section can satisfy spatial constraints, and with certain internal geometry, may permit improved heat rejection performance while potentially enabling a cost reduction through a reduction in materials. The heat exchanger has a housing which defines a heat exchanging cavity within which a tube bundle is positioned. The tube bundle is made up of a plurality of tubes in a hexagonal packing pattern that are supported by a plurality of baffles. The tube bundle and the housing define a serpentine flow path between an inlet and an outlet. The serpentine flow path includes a plurality of segments that are generally perpendicular to the tubes, and these segments are separated by flow direction changing windows. The tube bundle has a gap distance at the windows that is relatively large, and a gap distance away from the windows that is relatively small. In addition, each of the tubes of the tube bundle is adjacent to at least three other tubes, such that the perimeter set of tubes creates a hexagonal shape.

An exhaust system in an internal combustion engine has an exhaust manifold, an exhaust flange is connected to the exhaust manifold, and a turbocharger is connected to the exhaust flange. The turbocharger has an exhaust inlet flange connected to the exhaust flange. The exhaust manifold has a first passage and a second passage, and the exhaust flange has a first exhaust port and a second exhaust port. The exhaust ports of the exhaust flange each have a generally triangular cross-sectional configuration.
