Disclosed is a spacer, configured to position microwave energy delivery devices, including a housing, with a housing body and a compression body, and at least one compression mechanism. The housing body forms a housing body cavity and a plurality of housing device apertures. The compression body forms a plurality of compression body apertures that each correspond to a housing device aperture. The compression body slideably engages the housing body cavity and at least a portion of the compression body is positioned within the compression body cavity. A compression mechanism is positioned between the housing body and the compression body and configured to provide a biasing force between the housing body and the compression body. In a first position the housing device apertures are misaligned with the compression body apertures and in the second position the housing apertures are aligned with the compression body apertures forming a plurality of aligned apertures.

The present invention has a safety hood which is pivotally mounted to the body of the knife at the front end. The body is pivotally mounted to a spine at the back end. The blade is removably mounted on the spine such that the hood covers the blade when the knife is closed. The hood is biased closed and has a latch to hold it closed unless the latch is released. The user depresses a button, which moves the latch, releasing the hood to push up when the user presses the hood against a working surface. The hood's rotation, and therefore the about of blade exposed, is controlled by an adjustable depth assembly. The adjustable depth assembly has multiple settings, allowing the user to control the cutting depth of the knife.

The upward rotation of the hood releases the latch, so that when the hood rotates down the latch automatically re-locks the hood closed. The hood cannot be release again with out releasing the button and re-depressing the button.

A method for manufacturing a heat-sealed neo-natal medical monitoring probe requires a pair of light sources and a light detector to be placed between two layers or conformable material used to implement the probe. The layers are designed to be self-aligning when placed in the assembly press for heat-sealing the perimeter of the probe. The heat-sealing process both protects the light sources and detector from fluids and also functions to precisely position and secure these devices.

The pulse oximeter probe uses an inexpensive connector to electrically interconnect the sensor elements with the pulse oximeter. One segment of the probe connector contains a set of connector pins that are wired to the sensor elements. Another segment of the probe connector is equipped with a mating configuration of sockets which align with these pins. Three projections function to automatically align the connector pins with the connector sockets. Two of the projections engage a mating aperture in the other connector segment to fasten the two connector segments together, while a third projection aligns with an edge of the other connector segment to position the two connector segments.

The universal pulse oximeter probe [of the present invention] utilizes an inexpensive sensor connector configuration to enable the cable section of the probe to be used numerous times. The [sensor connector is mechanically simple and electrically reliable to interconnect the sensor elements with the cable that connects the pulse oximeter system to the sensor elements. This sensor connector enables the user to obtain significant benefits due to the fact that the expensive cable segment of the probe is a separable element from the housing that contains the sensor elements. In particular, the] cable segment of the probe consists of a connector that is compatible with the pulse oximeter system and which functions to interconnect the pulse oximeter system with a plurality of conductors, the far end of which are terminated in the sensor connector [of the present invention]. The probe housing contains a mating element to this sensor connector, the sensor elements and a means of mechanically affixing the sensor elements to the subject. Thus, the cable end of the probe is reusable numerous times and the disposable part of the probe only consists of the housing with the sensors. Furthermore, the housing containing the sensors is electrically configured to be generic to all pulse oximeter system. In this regard, the active elements and passive elements contained therein are directly connected to the sensor connector without interconnection amongst themselves. Jumper leads are provided within the cable half of the sensor connector to electrically interconnect these elements in a manner that is appropriate for the associated pulse oximeter system.
