A riding apparatus for treating a floor surface has a main steering and drive wheels and a forwardly located seat for an operator and at least one foot rest for feet of the operator. The vehicle has a polishing and cleaning deck mounted in front of the vehicle and is operably connected to the main vehicle. A clearance gap is formed between the vehicle and the polishing and cleaning deck. The at least one foot rest has a gap therebetween for providing a line of sight for the operator through the gap to view the floor surface directly behind the deck.

A swing arm for managing a power cord to an electric vehicle has a proximate arm member with a pivotable connection about a vertical axis for connection to the vehicle in proximity to a longitudinal center line of the vehicle. A distal arm member is pivotably connected about a pivot vertical axis to the proximate arm member and resiliently biased to extend straight out with respect to the proximate arm member. The swing arm is dimensioned to extend the distal arm member beyond a side of the vehicle when the swing arm extends laterally with respect to the vehicle. A spring member is connected to the distal arm member for resiliently biasing the distal arm member to extend straight out with respect to the proximate arm member against a side force below a predetermined amount and yieldable to bending of the distal arm member upon exertion of a side force above the predetermined amount.

Riding apparatus for treating floor surfaces with a power cord handling swing arm

A floor scrubber includes a forward cylindrical brush with adjustable down pressure. The cylindrical brush is sprayed uniformly with a controlled amount of water or solution and moves debris forward with a direct propelling action into a collection hopper. A set of three disc brushes is located behind the cylindrical brush, followed by a suction liquid recovery device for suctioning spent solution. A control system allows independent use of the forward cylindrical brush, or the rear disc brush set, or all brushes. A floor-engaging flap having a central opening extends transverse of the machine behind the cylindrical brush to channel water from the cylindrical brush to the disc brush set and then to the suction recovery device.

Floor scrubber

A mobile litter pickup vehicle has a pair of forward corner brushes independently mounted on articulated arms so that the brushes may be moved in the event an obstacle is encountered to avoid damage to the brushes or to the object. An air recirculating system is employed for prolonging the life of the final outlet filter, and an impermeable trash bag may be used for disposing of the contents of a primary scrim collection bag.

Litter vacuum

A larger scrubbing machine and a smaller scrubbing machine are provided in combination. The larger scrubbing machine scrubs larger floor areas and the smaller scrubbing machine scrubs smaller floor areas that are typically inaccessible by the larger machine. When the larger machine is being used, the smaller scrubbing machine is attached thereto. When a smaller floor area is to be cleaned, the smaller scrubbing machine is removed from the larger scrubbing machine. The smaller scrubbing machine includes a scrubber assembly and a motor that is powered using an electrical power source located on the larger machine. A spring is operatively connected to this scrubber assembly for ensuring desired contact between the brush bristles and the floor area being cleaned. Two spaced pairs of wheels provide a uniform plane of contact during scrubbing by the scrubber assembly. The smaller scrubbing machine also has a pivotal wand to further facilitate the scrubbing operation, particularly removal of recovered liquid from the floor.

In one embodiment, the apparatus includes four wheels, two of which are steerable wheels, and a steering mechanism that permits the two steerable wheels to turn to a degree that allows very tight turns to be made by the sweeper. Yet a further embodiment of the sweeper includes flaps or seals that form a skirt about the broom and a mounting mechanism for slidably receiving the flap or seal. In a further embodiment, the apparatus is a sweeper that employs flaps with wear indicators that tell an operator when to adjust or replace the flap. In another embodiment, the apparatus is a sweeper that utilizes a pre-filter to remove debris that remains in the vacuum airstream after having passed through the hopper and that is of a size that can require frequent cleaning of a subsequent filtering device. In yet a further embodiment, the apparatus is a scrubber with two counter rotating disk brushes, a primary squeegee, and a second or presqueegee for relieving the primary squeegee from processing the heavier concentration of wastewater produced in the area between the brushes. In yet another embodiment, the apparatus is a scrubber that includes a squeegee mounting systems that is relatively easy to use and permits the squeegee rubber to extend beyond the end of the mounting structure.

A drive hub spindle assembly for use in connection with a cylindrical broom (12) is provided which enhances power transmission and facilitates drive hub/spindle engagement. The drive hub (10) includes three radially projecting lugs (24) for engaging mating recesses (72) of the spindle (60). A novel reinforcing structure (52) associated with each of the lugs (24) is also disclosed. The hub (10) is self-centering and requires minimal manipulation during engagement.
