An image scanning apparatus and a torsion oscillator are capable of operating across a dynamic range of possible operating frequencies. The image scanning apparatus uses a light source to produce a light beam, and the oscillator scans the light beam through a scanning pattern. The oscillator includes a plate member having a non-rectangular shape. At least one magnet is disposed on the plate. A surface of the plate member includes a reflective surface for reflecting a light beam. A frame is disposed in a spaced apart relation to a lower surface of the plate member. The frame includes at least one coil configured to induce an electromagnetic force on the at least one magnet to thereby oscillate the reflective surface to a rotational angle of oscillation at an oscillation frequency. The system also includes an imaging surface disposed in the path of the scanning pattern so that the light beam scans across the imaging surface, and a mechanical drive to move the imaging surface. A control system controls electric current provided to the at least one coil to achieve the oscillation.

Stationary coil oscillator scanning system

In bi-directional imaging, such as bi-directional printing, a galvanometric oscillator scans a light beam through a scan path across an imaging window. A controller enables transmission of video data to a modulator when the light beam is positioned for imaging on the imaging window. Video data is transmitted to the modulator when the light beam is traveling in a forward direction or a reverse direction across the imaging window, whereby a modulated light beam is capable of producing an image when traveling in the forward or reverse directions.

Bi-directional galvonometric scanning and imaging

An image scanning apparatus and a torsion oscillator are capable of operating across a dynamic range of possible operating frequencies. The image scanning apparatus uses a light source to produce a light bean, and the oscillator scans the light beam through a scanning pattern. The oscillator includes a plate member having a non-rectangular shape. At least one magnet is disposed on the plate. A surface of the plate member includes a reflective surface for reflecting a light beam. A frame is disposed in a spaced apart relation to a lower surface of the plate member. The fame includes at least one coil configured to induce an electromagnetic force on the at least one magnet to thereby oscillate the reflective surface to a rotational angle of oscillation at an oscillation frequency. The system also includes an imaging surface disposed in the path of the scanning pattern so that the light beam scans across the imaging surface, and a mechanical drive to move the imaging surface. A control system controls electric current provided to the at least one coil to achieve the oscillation.

An improved control method is provided that combines conventional ON-OFF control and conventional phase-angle control to reduce the AC inrush current to an electrical load, such as a tungsten halogen lamp used as a heating element in a laser printer, so that the power control circuit can satisfy both the European flicker and European harmonic requirements. Phase-angle control is applied to the load for a very short time period when it is initially energized, then the control circuit quickly switches from phase-angle control to standard ON-OFF control to reduce the harmonics generated by conventional phase-angle control methodologies. The electrical load exhibits three possible states: power full OFF, power ramp-up, and power full ON. During the power ramp-up state, power supplied to the load is adjusted by delaying the phase angle of the firing pulse relative to the start of each AC half cycle. Depending upon whether or not the system demand has been satisfied, the load's state can be changed from either power ramp-up to power full ON, or from power ramp-up to power full OFF. The phase-angle control methodology used during the power ramp-up state must be of sufficient time duration to reduce the amount of flicker to pass the European flicker test. However, this power ramp-up time interval must also be as short as possible to keep the harmonics as small as possible to the load, without the requirement of adding a large AC current harmonic attenuation inductor, which would otherwise be needed to pass the European harmonic test.

Method and apparatus for supplying AC power while meeting the European

A low-noise, paper pick or other single cycle mechanism is obtained by employing a rotary solenoid (15) which has a force to a detent position which may be overcome by force from a drive roller (1). In the detent position the drive roller faces a blank sector (5) of a gear (3) which is integral with a shaft (7), which is the shaft to be turned. An electrical control signal to the solenoid rotates gear (3) through gear (13), which is directly driven by the solenoid, and which turns gear (11) on the shaft. The drive gear overcomes the force of the solenoid until it is disengaged after one cycle, at which time the detent force of the solenoid holds the mechanism in its detent position.
