The present invention relates to a method and system for performing a random access operation between a mobile station and a network element such as a base transceiver station (), wherein allowed access slots for random access channels are defined by the network and are signaled to the mobile station (). The definition of the allowed access slots is performed on the basis of a parameter set by the base transceiver station () and transmitted to the mobile station () which determines the allowed access slots based on the parameter. Thus, the number of allowed access slots can be defined by the network and can be changed dynamically based on the random access messaging load and the hardware requirements.

The invention provides circuitry for processing and routing data and comprises an input configured to receive data, one or more summing units configured to sum at least some of the data and a plurality of outputs configured to output the summed data. Data transmission method and arrangement

A method and system for determining a location of a user equipment using RTT measurements from a connected node B and RTT measurement of other node Bs which are not connected to the user equipment. The radio network controller of a network measures RTT of a connected node Bs and then measures RTT of non connected node Bs. Based on the RTT measurement, the distances of the user equipment from each node B is determined. Circles having radii equal to the distances of the user equipment from the nodes are used to determine the user equipment location.

Network-based method and system for determining a location of user equipment in CDMA networks

A method and an equipment implementing the method that allow a logical channel, to which a received burst relates, to be identified with certainty also in demanding operational circumstances. A logical channel relating to a time slot is identified by applying channel decoding. The identification can be a primary identification or a confirming identification taking place after a primary identifier the time slot comprises, preferably a bit map, has been interpreted. If identification based on channel decoding contradicts identification based on the bit map, a receiver can be arranged to indicate logical channel information on the basis of the channel decoding, for instance by changing the bit map, when selected criteria are met, to a bit map conforming to the logical channel identified on the basis of the channel decoding. The invention significantly improves the performance of a receiver of a mobile communications system because a considerable part of misinterpretations relating to the logical channel are avoided.

Method and equipment for identifying a logical channel

The invention relates to a base station comprising distributed processor architecture and a method of booting distributed processor architecture of a base station. The distributed processor architecture of the base station comprises a main unit and at least one sub-unit connected to it via the Ethernet. In the method, the main unit is booted, which main unit releases the sub-unit from reset. The control logic of the sub-unit reads the initialization parameters of the MAC controller stored in the read-only memory of the sub-unit. The MAC controller is initialized by using the read initialization parameters, after which boot software is loaded to the sub-unit via the Ethernet. Finally, the sub-unit is booted with the loaded boot software.

A method of determining the location of a user equipment includes determining a round trip time for downlink from at least three nodes to a user equipment, determining the transmission timing delay at the user equipment for the round trip time of each of the three nodes, and determining a distance from each of the at least three nodes using the round trip time and the transmission timing delay.
