A method and apparatus therefor comprises: receiving an image data and a power metadata, wherein the power metadata includes information relating to a power consumption or an expected power consumption; determining, based on the power metadata, an amount and a duration of a drive modification that may be performed by a target display in response to the power consumption or the expected power consumption; and performing a power management of the target display based on the power metadata to modify a driving of at least one light-emitting element associated with the target display relative to a manufacturer-determined threshold, based on a result of the determining, wherein the power metadata includes at least one of a temporal luminance energy metadata, a spatial luminance energy metadata, a spatial temporal fluctuation metadata, or combinations thereof.

Metadata-based power management

A video content controller includes a memory and a microprocessor. The memory is configured to store non-transitory computer-readable instructions and video data representing a temporally-varying scene having a plurality of scene-regions. The microprocessor adapted to execute the instructions to (i) receive a current stream-segment of a video stream corresponding to a first scene-region of the plurality of scene-regions during a current playback-time interval, (ii) download, to a memory, a first video segment of a tagged scene-region within the first scene-region, (iii) receive a first display-region signal indicating at least one of a selection and a feature of the first scene-region, (iv) combine the current stream-segment and the first video segment as a video signal, and (vi) transmit, in response to the first display-region signal, the video signal to a display device.

Video content controller and associated method

An embodiment of the disclosure provides a method and a system to sense a light source based on a viewer position in relation to display device. The system receives sensor data from one or more light sensors mounted on a wearable device worn by a viewer of a display device in a room, where a field of view for the light sensors covers at least a field of view of the viewer. The system identifies a light source perceived in a field of view of the viewer based on the sensor data. The system transmits data for one or more operations to be performed by the display device displaying content to the viewer to compensate for a change in brightness or color of the content caused by the light source based at least in part on light source information of the light source.

Viewer synchronized illumination sensing

A display apparatus, a display management module and a method for ambient light compensation are described. The display management module is configured to receive an input video signal comprising a sequence of video frames and to determine whether a current video frame of the sequence of video frames immediately follows a scene change. The display management module is further configured to adjust ambient light compensation applied to the input signal in dependence on the signal indicative of intensity of ambient light only in response to determining that the current video frame of the sequence of video frames immediately follows a scene change.

A display system comprises light sources configured to emit first light with a first spectral power distribution; light regeneration layers configured to be stimulated by the first light and to convert at least a portion of the first light and recycled light into second light, the second light comprising (a) primary spectral components that correspond to primary colors and (b) secondary spectral components that do not correspond to the primary colors; and notch filter layers configured to receive a portion of the second light and to filter out the secondary spectral components from the portion of the second light. The portion of the second light can be directed to a viewer of the display system and configured to render images viewable to the viewer.

In some embodiments, a display device is disclosed to optically communicating display parameters. The device receives input image data. Embedded in the input image data is a code value identifying a request for a portion of a display parameter of the display device. The device decodes the embedded code value. The device generates an optical image based on the request and transmits the generated optical image to an output of the display device to communicate the requested portion of the requested display parameter.

Optically communicating display metadata

Methods, systems, and computer program products for automatically positioning a content capturing device are disclosed. A vehicle, e.g., an UAV, carries the content capturing device, e.g., a camcorder. The UAV can position the content capturing device at a best location for viewing a subject based on one or more audio or visual cues. The UAV can follow movement of the subject to achieve best audio or visual effect. In some implementations, a controller device carried by the subject can generate one or more signals for the UAV to follow. The controller device may be coupled to a microphone that records audio. The signals can be used to temporally synchronize video captured at the UAV and audio captured by the microphone.

Audio capture for aerial devices

Systems and methods for overlaying a second image/video data onto a first image/video data are described herein. The first image/video data may be intended to be rendered on a display with certain characteristics&#x2014;e.g., HDR, EDR, VDR or UHD capabilities. The second image/video data may comprise graphics, closed captioning, text, advertisement&#x2014;or any data that may be desired to be overlaid and/or composited onto the first image/video data. The second image/video data may be appearance mapped according to the image statistics and/or characteristics of the first image/video data. In addition, such appearance mapping may be made according to the characteristics of the display that the composite data is to be rendered. Such appearance mapping is desired to render a composite data that is visually pleasing to a viewer, rendered upon a desired display.

Systems and methods for appearance mapping for compositing overlay graphics

A spherical image of a spatial environment is received and contains spherically arranged pixel values indexed by a time value. The spherical image is represented in a content creation coordinate system in reference to a spatial position in the spatial environment. The spatial position is indexed by the time value. A spatial relationship is determined between the content creation coordinate system and a spherical image reference coordinate system. Based at least in part on the spatial relationship and the spherically arranged pixel values, spherical distributions of image metadata are determined for the spherical image.

Viewport independent image coding and rendering

Directional image sensor data may be acquired with one or more directional image sensors. A light source and illumination image may be generated based on the directional image sensor data. A number of operations may be caused to be performed for an image based at least in part on light source information in the light source image. The operations may include display management operations, device positional operations, augmented reality superimposition operations, ambient light control operations, etc.

Surround ambient light sensing, processing and adjustment

The present invention provides a cinema screen that improves audience perception of brightness at, for example, a premium theater without additional illumination cost. The screen is produced from materials that also help mitigate speckle from laser illumination. The screen has properties and includes structures that may be tuned to the specific capabilities of the projection system, arrangement of the theater, and projector (and angle of projection, angle of viewing). Light reflected from the screen are direct toward audience members and away from walls and ceilings.

High performance screens for laser projection

A highlight mask is generated for an image to identify one or more highlights in the image. One or more highlight classifiers are determined for the one or more highlights in the image. One or more highlight gains are applied with the highlight mask to luminance amplitudes of pixels in the one or more highlights in the image to generate a scaled image. The one or more high-light gains for the one or more highlights are determined based at least in part on the one or more highlight classifiers determined for the one or more highlights.

Image highlight detection and rendering

A display management processor receives an input image with enhanced dynamic range to be displayed on a target display which has a different dynamic range than a reference display. The input image is first transformed into a perceptually-corrected IPT color space. A non-linear mapping function generates a first tone-mapped signal by mapping the intensity of the input signal from the reference dynamic range into the target dynamic range. The intensity (I) component of the first tone-mapped signal is sharpened to preserve details, and the saturation of the color (P and T) components is adjusted to generate a second tone-mapped output image. A color gamut mapping function is applied to the second tone-mapped output image to generate an image suitable for display onto the target display. The display management pipeline may also be adapted to adjust the intensity and color components of the displayed image according to specially defined display modes.
