The invention relates to a surgical instrument with an instrument handle, an instrument shank connected to the instrument handle, an instrument tip with a work point, which instrument tip is connected to the instrument shank, and a first locator arranged on the instrument handle or the instrument shank. During a use of the surgical instrument, the instrument shank can be deflected, e.g. on account of transverse forces, at least between the first locator and the work point. A second locator is arranged at a distance from the first locator and, by comparison with the latter, closer to the work point, wherein the second locator is designed to detect five degrees of freedom.

Surgical instrument and method for detecting the position of a surgical instrument

The invention relates to a device for connecting a medical instrument to a position-detecting system, the device having a localization element. The medical instrument has an instrument shaft, an instrument tip and an operating point. At least one localization element for determining position information for the device within a coordinate system of the position-detecting system can be provided on the device, the device having at least one retaining means for attaching the localization element to the medical instrument.

Device and method for connecting a medical instrument to a position-detecting system

A medical system for assisting in the planning and/or performance of the reconstruction of normally symmetrical body parts of a patient comprises a measuring unit for measuring a first surface and a second surface for determining a topography of the first and second surfaces, a storage unit for storing the determined topographies of the first and second surfaces, an evaluation unit for establishing a mirror image of the stored topography of the first surface and for calculating deviations of the stored topography of the second surface from the first surface mirror image, and a control unit for outputting guidance information for at least one medical instrument on the basis of the calculated deviations of the topography of the second surface, in order to reconstruct the topography of the second surface according to the mirror image of the topography of the first surface.

System for the reconstruction of symmetrical body parts

A medical system comprises an instrument, a position acquisition apparatus, a data processing and image generating apparatus and an image display and control unit. The position acquisition apparatus is configured to acquire a position and orientation of the instrument in relation to a reference coordinate system. The data processing and image generating apparatus is configured to generate an image of a body part from currently recorded or stored data representing a body part, which image reproduces a view of the body part together with a representation of the position, and preferably also the orientation of the instrument so that an observer can gather the position and orientation of the instrument in the body part from the image of the body part.

A navigation support system for medical instruments comprises a signal processing unit with an input for real-time video image signals from an optical instrument, input for instrument position signals and access to tomography image data, and output for outputting image signals. The signal processing unit generates output image signals from the image signals, the image data and the position signals and generates the output image signals such that the real-time video image signals are displayed permanently centrally on an image display unit connected to the navigation support system in a round or oval central image display of an overall image, wherein the central image display extends at least in one direction of extension across more than half of the overall image and that the secondary images generated by tomography image data, in dependence on the instrument position signals, are displayed adjacent to or partially superimposed over the central image display.

Navigation assistance system for medical instruments

A method for incorporating tomographically obtained image data from a patient into a system for surgical planning and/or intraoperative navigation involves tomographic image data or image data obtained by X-ray recordings from at least one defined body area of the patient by at least one first recording appliance, wherein a first reference body having at least one surface is arranged on the patient and is recorded by the first recording appliance at the same time. The recorded image data representing the first reference body are compared with known geometric data from the first reference body in order to obtain distortion information. The recorded image data are equalized by a computation unit based on the distortion information to obtain equalized image data which have further image data from the same body area superimposed to obtain superimposed image data that is presented on a display.

Intraoperative image registration by means of reference markers

A method for presenting image data, in which an optical implement captures the position and positional information is obtained thus and, with the aid of the positional information, image data are determined and displayed or processed further. The image data to be displayed are at least in part based on virtual image data, not real image data captured directly by the optical implement. These virtual image data represent an object or body part situated in the field of view of the optical implement. Within the scope of the method, real image data are recorded by means of the optical implement, the position and/or alignment of the optical implement is captured simultaneously and positional information is derived therefrom.

A registration method and device for detecting the position and alignment of an object or body part in relation to a position detection system, the method arranging a reference sensor on the object or body part and/or on an image sensor unit, detecting the position of the reference sensor by means of the position detection system, photogrammetrically detecting a surface of the object or body part by means of the image sensor unit, producing a surface model of the object or body part on the basis of the photogrammetrically detected information, determining the position of the reference sensor in the surface model, and correlating the surface model with a coordinate system of the position detection system on the basis of the determined position of the reference sensor in the surface model and on the basis of the position of the reference sensor detected by means of the position detection system.
