An imaging device comprising at least one image capturing subsystem of a first type, comprising a lens arrangement, configured to produce images. The device further comprises at least one image capturing subsystem of a second type comprising a lens arrangement, having optical or light gathering properties different from the subsystem of first type, configured to produce an image, and a controller configured to select the subsystem with which an image is to be taken.

Imaging device

An apparatus for quantifying irradiance has a first sensor having an output for providing a reference signal of irradiance within a first band, such as the visible light band. A filter and a second sensor are in optical series so that irradiance sensed at the second sensor is filtered. The second sensor outputs a filtered signal of irradiance within the first band. The filter particularly filters irradiance in the first band as a function of irradiance in the second band, such as the UV light band. In an exemplary embodiment, the filter is made from a material that darkens with increasing UV irradiance. A processor has inputs coupled to the outputs of the first and second sensors for determining irradiance in the second band from the reference signal and the filtered signal. Mathematical formulations for the processor are provided, as are methods and a computer program embodied on a medium. A single sensor embodiment is also described.

UV radiation meter using visible light sensors

An optical user interface for controlling a portable electric device, such as a portable phone is provided. The user interface comprises a stripe-like optical contact surface, on which the finger of the user of the electric device is placed. A series of images of the fingerprint is taken and processed such that a motion vector or an image of the fingerprint is obtained. The invention provides a small-sized and economical user interface in terms of battery consumption and manufacturing costs.

The telecommunication device comprises a speaker ( ) and a microphone ( ) in order to use the telecommunication device as a telephone. Multi-function telecommunication device

A method is disclosed for operating a cellular telephone that includes a first step, executed in response to input from a user, of disabling the cellular telephone from receiving cellular telephone calls. A second step then periodically enables the cellular telephone to receive, store and display user-related messages from a network control channel. In one embodiment the step of disabling includes a step of de-registering the cellular telephone from the network, and the step of periodically enabling includes an initial step of re-registering the cellular telephone with the network. The step of disabling may include a step of reducing the power consumption of the cellular telephone. In accordance with a further aspect of this invention the step of periodically enabling includes an initial step of requesting the network to assign the cellular telephone to a predetermined paging frame class that insures that the cellular telephone will receive a paging message from the network every n seconds. The step of periodically enabling thus further includes the step of placing the cellular telephone in a low power mode of operation for n-x seconds, where x is a period of time at least equal to a time required to resynchronize the cellular telephone to the network control channel.

Mobile terminal having user-actuated pager mode

A/D and D/A converters are effectively utilized in a mobile phone, for example, by multiplexing the signals before the conversion. Both time division multiplexing and frequency division multiplexing can be used. When frequency division multiplexing is used, the IF signal (D) coming from the radio part and the baseband signal (A) coming from the microphone are summed (30) before the A/D conversion (31). The converted signal (K, L) is directed through filters (32, 34) in separate branches to digital signal processing (28). After that, the coded microphone signal (I, Q) is modulated (41, 42) to the intermediate frequency and added to the received, decoded baseband signal (M). The summed signal is directed to a D/A converter (45) and thereafter the signals are again separated by means of filters (46, 47). When time division multiplexing is used, the arrangement can also be used for measuring other signals of the mobile station.

Multiplexed signal conversion

A GSM mobile telephone includes a digital audio interface for interfacing with a system simulator for test purposes. A digital signal processor within the mobile telephone includes a codec data register that interfaces to an analog codec which provides A/D and D/A conversion of speech signals. An interface circuit is connected to the codec data register and includes a digital audio interface block and a test access port data register, both of which enable test data inputs and test data outputs to be respectively fed to the mobile telephone's digital signal processor and enable test functions to be accomplished without a requirement for loading of test program into the mobile telephone station.
