An internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle has at least one cylinder, a cylinder head, and a piston which is movably mounted in the cylinder and has a combustion chamber side which delimits a combustion chamber with the cylinder head and the cylinder. The cylinder head has a combustion chamber roof, in which at least two valve seats for at least one inlet valve and at least one outlet valve are provided. The combustion chamber roof has at least one arched cylinder head section which is arranged between the at least two valve seats and points away from the combustion chamber.

Internal combustion engine

A valve control of an internal combustion engine has a camshaft and a cam sleeve, which surrounds the camshaft and is fastened in an axially movable manner and has cams, which are associated with individual valves and extend in the radial direction. The cam sleeve can be moved in the axial direction in relation to the camshaft by an actuator during rotation. The cam sleeve has at least two axial segments, which can be moved in relation to each other in the axial direction by the actuator, which engages in the axial segments.

Exhaust valve deactivation

A control shaft of a cam shaft adjustment unit has axially spaced adjustment cams, which are designed in a first axial section of the control shaft for a continuous operation of a cylinder and in a second axial section for a cylinder shut-off. The adjustment cams for the continuous operation of a cylinder have, over the entire circumference of the cam circle, a radial extension which is greater than a zero stroke extension and the adjustment cams for the cylinder shut-off have, around their circumference, a shut-off section of the cam circle with a radial extension which is less than or equal to the zero stroke extension. The control shaft has a stop that reduces the rotation in both circumferential directions and functions as the calibration point for an engine electronics system.
