The present invention relates to a novel MMP-8 activation product such as a MMP-8 middle-part activation product. The invention also relates to detecting such a MMP-8 activation product or activated MMP-8 fragments in a biological sample derived from a subject and to the use thereof for diagnosing diseases which relate to abnormal or elevated levels of activated MMP-8.

MMP-8 activation product, its determination and use

MMP-8 activation products are disclosed that have a MMP-8 middle-part activation product having a size between 20-35 kDa. Methods of detecting the MMP-8 activation product or activated MMP-8 fragments in a biological sample derived from a subject are also disclosed. The MMP-8 activation product or activated MMP-8 fragments diagnose diseases based on abnormal or elevated levels of activated MMP-8.

Music and non-music portions in an audio stream are identified. The audio stream is digitized and segmented into frames. The invention is a method of inhibiting the activity of membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase (MT-MMP) in biological systems. Accordingly, the invention permits the treatment of medical conditions in mammals that are characterized by MT-MMP activity, and especially those conditions characterized by excessive MT-MMP activity. The method employs a tetracycline compound, preferably a non-antimicrobial tetracycline, and more preferably 6-demethyl-6-deoxy-4-de(dimethylamino)tetracycline (CMT-,) or 6-&agr;-deoxy-5-hydroxy-4-de(dimethylamino)tetracycline (CMT-,) to inhibit the MT-MMP activity.

Methods and test kits are described which provide a reliable, sensitive and selective assessment of periodontal disease activity, peri-implantitis or HIV(+)-infection/AIDS-disease related periodontal diseases. The preferred methods and test kits are constructed to be easy and rapid chair-side tests. The method is based on the preparation and use of monoclonal antibodies which recognize the active mammalian matrix metalloproteinase-S (MMP-8) and is capable of differentiating between said active matrix metalloproteinase-8 and its inactive proform.
