Disclosed is a method, system and computer programs to provide emergent behavior in a network of connected mobile user devices. The method includes advertising with a mobile wireless communication device to other mobile wireless communication devices a vector list that includes at least mobile wireless communication device specific vectors and mobile wireless communication device user specific vectors. The method further includes determining, in cooperation with a cloud-based data processing environment, whether to connect to a network of other mobile wireless communication devices based at least on at least one element that comprises part of vector lists associated with the other mobile wireless communication devices, the vector lists being stored at the cloud-based data processing environment.

Group user experience

The invention relates to a method for arranging a conference call with mobile terminals operating in a cellular network. At first, a group of the participants of the conference call is formed either by selecting the participants from a list saved in the memory of the mobile terminal in by inputting the contract information of the participants manually. In the next step, a summons to the conference call is drawn up in standard form. An application loaded into the memory of the convener's mobile terminal forms the summons, and sends the summons to the particulars via the cellular network. When a participant wants to join a conference call, he/she makes a call with the mobile terminal to the telephone number mentioned in the summons. An application in the mobile terminal of the convener receives the incoming calls and joins them to the conference call automatically.

Inter-system handover, for instance from WCDMA to GSM, is facilitated by transmitting a pilot from each neighboring GSM cell on the WCDMA carrier, thereby avoiding any need for a dual-system mobile station.

The invention relates to a method for detecting a home area in a mobile station, and to a mobile station realizing the invention. According to the invention the home area is detected in the mobile station by comparing ( ) data received by the mobile station from the base stations of a cellular network with predetermined ( to ) home area data stored in the mobile station. The home area data is determined ( to ) based on preferably all of the following data: a) a mobile country code (MCC), b) a mobile network code (MNC), c) a location area code (LAC) and a related cell identity (CI) for all broadcasting channels (BCCH) which the base station is able to receive, d) received signal strengths (RSS) for all broadcasting channels BCCH, e) distances from all base stations (BTS) on the broadcasting channels BCCH, and f) timing advances (TA).

Method and apparatus for detecting the home area in a mobile station

According to the invention, a pilot signal is transmitted from a base station on each available carrier. This is done for each available carrier and in every time slot of the carrier irrespective of whether or not a useful signal is transmitted in the time slot. The pilot signal contains a limited quantity of information concerning the base station, such as information about the radio interface. The information is time slot synchronized so that the same information is transmitted in every time slot. The pilot signal level varies, and in time slots which are in traffic use it is suitably lower than the level of the useful signal proper, but in idle time slots it has a very low static level. It has the same band width Df as the normal useful signal. However, it is coded in a different way than the useful signal and in such a way that although it almost drowns in noise, it can still be extracted from the noise. The mobile gets information from the pilot signal on the state of channels (time slots) in the uplink direction. When deciding to perform channel exchange, it chooses any free channel it likes and transmits an access burst to the base station on this channel. If the base station accepts the channel, it will transmit back an access grant burst on the same channel, whereafter the base station and the mobile will immediately transfer the traffic to this channel.

Dynamic channel allocation

The invention relates to the use of intelligent network services from a terminal (3) of a telecommunication network and particularly to the introduction of new services and a programmable user interface of a terminal. A service provider (5) programs service functions in a switching centre (1) of a telecommunication network and delivers to a user a program which is loaded in the user's terminal (3). According to the loaded program the terminal, advantageously a telephone apparatus equipped with a display (7), shows to the user the available services and the corresponding commands assigned to the function keys (8a) of the terminal. The user gives the required commands which advantageously are one-push-of-a-button long and the meanings of which at each particular situation are shown on the terminal's display. Advantageously the program is delivered to the user by loading it in an intelligent card (6) controlling the operation of the terminal.

The arrangement includes a circuit (TF, DP) for receiving timing information from the cellular radio telephone in order to synchronize the operation of the cellular radio telephone and the booster.
