Embodiments of the invention are directed to methods, apparatuses and systems for providing a service, utilizing Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), to a user in a communications network. According to one example of the invention, a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) message is received from an unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) server or gateway. Relevant content is then retrieved from a database upon receiving the HTTP message. A USSD message content is created based on a set of parameters, the USSD message content is sent to the USSD server, and the relevant content may then be provided to a user terminal in a text message.

Exchange of small pieces of data among end user terminals and/or between end user terminals and a network has increased. Examples of such small pieces of data include presence information updates. A messaging mechanism piggybacking the data in a push session initiation request enables sending of small pieces of data with minimum delay and without an activated packet data connection, and without user interaction.

A system and method with policy control function (PCF) for multimedia broadcast/multicast system (MBMS) services that includes a core network, one or more application servers, and one or more policy control functions (PCF). In one embodiment, the core network includes one or more gateway GPRS support nodes (GGSN). One of the application servers provides a MBMS service. At least one policy control function is operatively connected between each GGSN and application server. MBMS session request information is sent from the MBMS service server to the policy control function. The policy control function provides authorization information for a MBMS session to the GGSN.

System and method with policy control function for multimedia broadcast/multicast system services

A method for routing data packets to a mobile node in a communication system which includes at least a first subnetwork of a first type supporting a first IP version and a second subnetwork of a second type supporting a second IP version. The mobile node is provided with a set of protocol stacks for handling data packets at least according to the first and the second IP version and with a home address at least according to the first and the second IP version. The home agent intercepts at least data packets addressed to the mobile node's home address according to the first or the second IP version and for encapsulating a data packet addressed to the mobile node in a packet according to the IP version of the foreign network to which the mobile node is attached, for routing the data packet to the mobile node.

IP mobility in a communication system

Disclosed is a method of determining the validity of service announcements in a cellular mobile network, wherein a multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) is provided, a service area (SA) is defined by the availability of a specific broadcast/multicast service which availability is announced in each cell, and the method comprises: generating a service announcement area identification (SAA id) which is the same for cells with identical service announcements; and checking by a user entity (UE) upon arrival in a new cell which service announcement is valid by receiving the service announcement area identification (SAA id). Also disclosed are a corresponding system and user entity.

Method of determining the validity of service announcements

A method is provided to activate a packet data protocol (PDP) context in a cellular network. This may include determining whether users associated with the cellular network may receive multicast or broadcast data and activating the PDP context based on the determination. The determination may be based on a trigger that occurs when a notification is sent to the Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). The SGSN may get notified based on a periodic status query, an update message and/or an activation request, for example.
