Various embodiments include a method for the production of a sensor for an exhaust gas stream of an internal combustion engine, wherein the sensor comprises a first electrode and a second electrode. The method comprises: arranging a glass solder in a mold substantially between and substantially insulating the first electrode and the second electrode; arranging an insulating element in the mold in contact with a free surface of the glass solder; and finish molding the glass solder into a glass insulator together with the insulating element in a predetermined position relative to the first electrode and the second electrode. The insulating element shapes the glass insulator during the finish molding and at least partially isolates the glass insulator from the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine during a measuring operation of the sensor.

Sensor and production method therefor for use in an exhaust gas stream of an internal combustion engine

A first voltage (V) is detected between an auxiliary pump electrode and a reference electrode of an exhaust gas sensor, and a target diagnosis value (SDIAG) is determined as a function of the detected first voltage (V). A measured current (Im) is detected between a measurement electrode and a second main pump electrode of the exhaust gas sensor, said measured current being set up as the pump current by regulating a second voltage between the measurement electrode and the reference electrode to a pre-defined voltage. An actual diagnosis value (IDIAG) is determined as a function of the detected measured current (Im). An error (ERR) of the exhaust gas sensor is recognized depending on the target diagnosis value (SDIAG) and the actual diagnosis value (IDIAG).

Method and device for examining an exhaust gas sensor

Method and device for the diagnosis of an NOx sensor for an internal combustion engine

A method and device for driving a gas sensor includes a three-point circuit determining a temperature of a gas sensor having a resistive heating element by determining a measuring current with a measuring resistor flowing through the resistor in a measuring phase. The three-point measurement makes it possible to determine accurately the line resistance of an incoming line branch, which can also be used approximately for the line resistance of another incoming line branch. Naturally, the tap may also be provided on the incoming line side.

Heater drive circuit and drive method for a gas sensor

A thick-film measurement sensor includes two measurement cells and is used to measure the NOx concentration in the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine. The 1/&lgr; value of the exhaust gas is determined from an oxygen ion pump current flowing in the first measurement cell, for example, by a characteristic diagram, and, a measurement error, which can be used to correct the measured NOx concentration, is determined from this 1/&lgr; value, for example, by a characteristic curve that has previously been determined in a calibration measurement. The invention is based on the discovery that the measurement error is dependent on the air ratio in the exhaust gas. If this is expressed by the 1/&lgr; value, there is no need for a complex division calculation during the correction.

Method for determining a NOx concentration

A circuit for a NOx concentration sensor includes two connected measurement cells disposed in a solid-state electrolyte, a first circuit configuration that, by tapping off a first Nernst voltage (first reference variable), establishes in the cell an oxygen concentration that differs from that in a measured gas, a second circuit configuration that, by tapping off a second Nernst voltage (second reference variable), establishes in the cell an oxygen concentration that differs from that in the first cell, a third circuit configuration that, by tapping off a third Nernst voltage (third reference variable), drives a pump current of oxygen ions that originate from NOx, out of the second cell, a conditioning circuit, and a digital controller. The Nernst voltage is fed to the controller through the conditioning circuit, which shifts and amplifies the voltage such that the reference variable lies in a range around the control point of the controller, and a reference potential of a conditioned Nernst voltage equals that of the controller. The Nernst voltages, being previously preprocessed by the conditioning circuit, are used as a reference variable for regulating the oxygen ion pump current, which amplifies and shifts the Nernst voltages. As a result, a microcontroller with an 8-bit A/D converter can be employed, and A/D ports are saved.

Circuit for a NOx measurement sensor

The pump currents in an NOx measurement sensor are generated by voltage-controlled current sources. Instead of the respective pump current, a setting voltage received by the voltage-controlled current sources occurs as the feedback variable in a respective control loop, so that a current measurement can be dispensed with.
