A cable connector assembly (20) for use with USB receptacle connector (1), includes an insulative housing (26) having a main body (28) from which a plug section (30) extends forward and a platform section (32) extends rearward. A plurality of passageways (34) extend through the housing in a front-to-end direction for receiving a corresponding number of contacts (40) therein. A pair of protrusions (29) and a recess (25) are formed on the surface of the main body of the housing. A shell (60) generally surrounds the main body (28) the plug section (30) of the housing (26) with the apertures (66) for engagement with the housing (26) and for securement of the whole cable connector assembly (20). A round cable includes a plurality of internal wires (70) respectively soldered to the rear end of the corresponding contacts (40). An epoxy layer (88) covers the solder joints of the cable wires (70) and the contacts (40), and also fastens the wires (70) of the cable in position with regard to the whole cable connector assembly (20). An over-molded jacket (80) encompasses the pre-assembled and premolded housing (26) with the shell (60) and the epoxy layer (88) thereon wherein a copper foil (76) is used for grounding with the shell (60) on the housing (26) and the drain wire shield (78) in the cable cover (72).

Cable connector assembly

A connector (11) which is of a duplex type, having an insulative housing (12) enclosed by two shells (40, 46) except its bottom face. The housing (12) includes the upper section and the lower section each defining a cavity (14, 16) with a plate (18) horizontally extending therein. Each sections includes therein a plurality of contacts (90) projecting into the corresponding cavity (14, 16). The housing (12) includes plural recesses (76, 78, 80) extending rearward around each cavity (14, 16) for snugly receiving a corresponding number of tangs (56, 64, 70) which project in a backward folded manner from the front edges around the corresponding opening (52, 54) in the front shell (40). Some of such tangs (56, 64, 70) include embossments (84) or kinks (86) thereon for functions as retention means (70) and/or grounding means (56). A pair of spring grounding tangs (47) forward projecting out of the mating face (20) of the connector (11). The front shell (40) includes fastening means (41) to secure to the housing (12) and the rear shell (46) has locking means (55) to be securely fixed to the front shell (40), and thus the housing (12), the front shell (40) and the rear shell (46) form an assembled unit (11).

A shielded electrical connector comprises a connector body, a pair of nut screws, a pair of clamp piece, and a shielding cover. The connector body has a longitudinally-shaped body and has formed on the its center a connector head assembly. The connector head assembly having a number of signal pins aligned within the confinement thereof, and the connector body has formed on each end of the longitudinal body a clamp piece receiving section. Each of the sections has four receiving surfaces with the second receiving surface parallel to the surface of the connector body. The pair of nut screws each comprises a cylindrical body and has a threaded hole formed in the hollow space inside the cylindrical body. The pair of clamp pieces each comprises a three-panel square column, and a clamp hook plate extends vertically from the edge of a second one of the panels. A shielding cover has a generally longitudinal-shaped body and has formed on its center a shielding wall. Each of the pair of nut screws is installed inside a corresponding one the opening on one of the receiving surfaces, each of the clamp pieces is slid into the enclosing position surrounding a corresponding one the clamp piece receiving sections, and the shielding cover is aligned and joined with the connector body.

Shielded connector

An interconnection system for use with a computer set comprises a connector module PC board (10) on which most I/O connectors (12) are integrated to be mounted. A first mating section (18) is positioned adjacent the bottom edge of the PC board (10) and adapted to mate with a second mating section (22) of a main board (20) in the computer set. A frame (24) is formed on the back side of the computer case, and such connector module PC board (10) is securely but detachably attached to the frame (24). As an alternative to connector (18) contact pads (15) at the bottom edge of the board (10) are usable to mate with a vertically positioned connector on the main board (20). In another embodiment (FIG. 4) a right angle adapter (54) is used to electrically join a connector module PC board (50) to a main board (56).

Interconnection system with I/O connector module board

A socket contact (1) for use with a connector (40) includes a main body (10) and a tail (12) integrally extending from the rear portion thereof and perpendicular to the main body (10). An engagement section (14) is positioned on the front portion of the main body (10), and a retention section (16) is positioned on the rear portion of the main body (10). The engagement section (16) includes a thinner U-shaped member (20) at the front end, a thicker U-shaped member (22) at the rear end, and two curved beams (23, 24) integrally intermediating therebetween, respectively, oppositely facing to each other. The two U-shaped members (20, 22) horizontally and transversely lie in the corresponding cavity (44) in the connector (40) in the same direction, and therefore the two opposite curved beams (23, 24) can sandwich an inserted male pin contact therebetween in a vertical direction.
