Pressure pads useful in the closing and sealing of multiple components which define the bottom of a carton, particularly a gable-type carton, bottom having a square or rectangular footprint. The invention is especially useful in the closing of the bottom of cartons wherein the sealing fin of the carton bottom is non-handed.

The bottom of a paperboard container of the type suitable for consumer distribution of liquid foods such as milk and fruit juice includes an embossed concavity to reinforce the bottom against bulging under content fill pressure for improved free-standing stability. The carton bottom concavity is embossed to approximate the shape of a stepped pyramid.
