One variation of a method for monitoring manufacture of assembly units includes: receiving selection of a target location hypothesized by a user to contain an origin of a defect in assembly units of an assembly type; accessing a feature map linking non-visual manufacturing features to physical locations within the assembly type; for each assembly unit, accessing an inspection image of the assembly unit recorded by an optical inspection station during production of the assembly unit, projecting the target location onto the inspection image, detecting visual features proximal the target location within the inspection image, and aggregating non-visual manufacturing features associated with locations proximal the target location and representing manufacturing inputs into the assembly unit based on the feature map; and calculating correlations between visual and non-visual manufacturing features associated with locations proximal the target location and the defect for the set of assembly units.

In one embodiment, a method and apparatus for predicting and preventing escalations is disclosed. The method includes generating a predictive model from analysis of historical defect data and corresponding historical escalation data, and applying the predictive model to current defect data to determine an escalation risk of the current defect data.

A system automatically generates a representative image to represent a video sequence of a video program, and facilitates editing and manipulating of the video program. The system comprises receiving means (such as a frame selector or a unit extractor) for receiving a frame having at least one unit from a sequence of frames, resolving means (such as a unit extractor) for resolving one of the at least one unit, and generating means (such as an image engine) for generating an image representative of the sequence based on the unit. The system may further comprise a sequence divider for dividing the video program into multiple video sequences, and a frame selector for selecting the first sequence from the multiple sequences. The system may also comprise a unit distinction engine for determining distinct units from the units resolved by the resolving means, a unit predominance engine for defining predominance of each of the distinct units, and a unit representation engine for determining the distinct units which most uniquely represent the first video sequence. The resolving means preferably generates the representative image based on the distinct units determined by the unit representation engine to represent the first video sequence most uniquely. The resolving means may include an enhancement module for adding artwork or other enhancements to the representative image.

A system and a process for providing visualization of program code written in an object-oriented programming language is described. The program code has a plurality of instructions with each such instruction including at least one of a data object and a corresponding data method. A visualization library includes a plurality of visualization classes. Each visualization class includes at least one visual object and at least one corresponding visual action. A visual manager library includes a plurality of visualization control classes. Each visualization control class includes at least one visualization control method. A pre-processor augments the program code with at least one visualization control method from at least one visualization control class in the visual manager library and associates the data object referenced in at least one instruction in the program code with at least one visual object from at least one visualization class in the visualization library and the corresponding data method referenced in the at least one instruction in the program code with the at least one corresponding visual action from the at least one visualization class in the visualization library. A visual manager executes the program code including the at least one visualization control method and the at least one visual action corresponding to the visual object associated with the data object referenced in the at least one instruction responsive to execution of the data method corresponding to the data object.
