Automatic quotes or references are generated based on a user's interaction with one or more pieces of content. A passage for quotation may be determined based at least in part on usage data including information about interaction with one or more pieces of content. A user may begin to type a quotation and a corresponding passage is inserted. The user may vary the scope of the passage, such as adding sentences or paragraphs. User annotation of the passage while the content is presented may also generate an automatically inserted quotation. A citation descriptive of the quoted passage may also be inserted. The automatically inserted quotation may be configured with a link or script, allowing additional functions or access to source content.

Automatic quote generation

Described herein are systems and methods for generating one or more storylines of content. Tags descriptive of events in the content are generated. Based at least in part on the tags, a storyline is generated from the tags describing the related events throughout the content. Some storylines may comprise multiple tags. A user may select one or more storylines for presentation.

Storyline presentation of content

Described herein are electronic devices that includes a display stack having a cover component atop a lightguide component and a display component below the lightguide component. In some instances, the cover component including an antiglare etching applied to a top surface of a coverglass and a touch pattern applied to a bottom surface of the coverglass. In some cases, an optically clear adhesive layer formed from two types of optically clear adhesive may be located between the cover component and the lightguide component and a ring adhesive may be applied to around an outer edge of the cover component, the optically clear adhesive and the lightguide component.

Various techniques are described for presenting haptic effects in a user device. The user device may include an outer shell and an inner device comprising one or more electronic components. The inner device may be suspended inside a cavity formed by the outer shell, and the inner device may be coupled to the outer shell by one or more haptic actuators situated between the inner device and the outer shell. The outer shell may substantially enclose the inner device, while leaving a touch sensor-enabled display accessible to a user. Based on touch inputs to the display, or other input events, control signals may be sent to the haptic actuator(s) to generate a relative motion between the inner device and the outer shell, the relative motion providing a haptic effect.

Haptic effects are dynamically generated for content presentation on a device through analysis of the content. During content playback, audio data for the content may be analyzed to determine low frequency audio data. The low frequency audio data is mapped from a low frequency range to a haptic control frequency range of one or more haptic actuators included in the device. This mapping may be used to generate a control signal to drive the one or more haptic actuators. The haptic effects and the content may be synchronized to one another during the presentation of the content on the device. The haptic actuator control signal may be amplified proportionally to the amplitude of the low frequency audio data.

Described herein are techniques for synchronizing reading locations of electronic copies of a print medium with page numbers associated with physical copies of the print medium. A page number is derived from an image of a page of a physical copy of the print medium, and the image is captured by an electronic bookmark or electronic device in proximity to the physical copy of the print medium. The page number or image is provided to a synchronization service which synchronizes the page number with one or more reading locations or other page numbers.

A method and system for differentiating between intended user input and inadvertent or incidental contact with a touchpad is herein disclosed. When a user engages the touchpad, sensors on the touchpad are activated and generate touch sensor signals. Based on the pattern of engaged sensors, a hand pattern can be determined. From the hand pattern, a hand model may be retrieved. The hand model may indicate passive zones and active zones. Contact in the active zones may be considered intentional, while contact in the passive zones may be considered unintended or incidental. Moreover, a global shift may be calculated, and input from the active zones may be compensated for the global shift. The input from the active zones can then be used to control a graphical user interface.

Systems and methods for altering the shape of a reconfigurable surface area are presented. The present systems and methods facilitate efficient and effective interaction with a device or system. In one embodiment, a surface reconfiguration system includes a flexible surface; an elevation unit that creates alterations in the contours of the surface; and an elevation control component that controls adjustments to the elevation unit. Thus, the surface of the device is reconfigurable based on system, application, mode, and/or user needs. Accordingly, the surface can be used to provide input and output functionality. The surface can include touch detection functionality for added input functionality.
