An insulation package comprising a layer of material having a cellular structure disposed between a first layer of high-strength polymeric fabric and a second layer of high-strength polymeric fabric. The insulation provides protection for critical fluid systems, such as fuel, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, thermal, and mechanical systems from high-energy projectiles such as fragments from the disintegration of high-speed turbines and engines.

Advanced multi-purpose ballistic insulation

An hydraulic power assembly is provided, including at least one primary hydraulic power unit supplying hydraulic fluid to a hydraulic system , and a contingency hydraulic power unit utilizing the orbiter's helium storage tank to power a contingency hydraulic drive to supply hydraulic fluid from a contingency hydraulic fluid reserve to the hydraulic system during peak loading conditions.

Contingency hydraulic power unit

A leak detection system for use with a fluid conducting system in a vacuum environment, such as space, is described. The system preferably includes a mesh-like member substantially disposed about the fluid conducting system, and at least one sensor disposed within the mesh-like member. The sensor is capable of detecting a decrease in temperature of the mesh-like member when a leak condition causes the fluid of the fluid conducting system to freeze when exposed to the vacuum environment. Additionally, a signal processor in preferably in communication with the sensor. The sensor transmits an electrical signal to the signal processor such that the signal processor is capable of indicating the location of the fluid leak in the fluid conducting system.
