A solenoid-type control system is disclosed, particularly for operating the locking hubs of a four-wheel drive vehicle. A solenoid valve assembly or mechanism has a coil member, a tubular member for directing air flow, and a valve mechanism at one end of the tubular member. A control circuit determines the level of energizing signal to the coil member which in turn controls the valve mechanism and the air flow passing through the tubular member. A switch mechanism has a moveable terminal which is operated by the level of energizing electrical signal.

Control system for providing dual vacuum levels

A refueling valve for a motor vehicle includes an integrated control valve therein having a vent tube that has a first valve seat on one end thereof and a second valve seat on the other end thereof that cooperate respectively with a float valve and with a diaphragm controlled pressure responsive cut-off valve that is operative in accordance with a sensed pressure condition in a fuel filler pipe to control fuel venting to a charcoal canister and to prevent the escape of fuel vapors from a filler neck. The diaphragm is communicated with a pressure sensing port in the filler neck below a trap door therein that opens during refueling and is closed once the fuel nozzle is removed. The pressure sensing pot is located upstream of a venturi that produces negative pressure at the pressure sensing port and on the diaphragm member. A spring biases the cut-off valve normally closed. The diaphragm is responsive to a reduced pressure condition in the filler neck to open the cut-off valve to allow vapors to be vented from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister during refueling.

Vehicle refueling valve

A solenoid valve has an elastomeric annular disc placed between the stationary and the moveable armatures. The elastomeric disc operates to absorb axially transmitted loads to quiet the operation of the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve also includes a pair of elastomeric rings surrounding the movable armature and being located between the lower armature and the coil assembly of the solenoid valve. The elastomeric rings operate to absorb laterally transmitted loads to quiet the operation of the solenoid valve. In another embodiment of the invention, the elastomeric rings are replaced with longitudinally extending elastomeric ridges located between the movable armature and the coil assembly. In this second embodiment, the elastomeric ridges may be integral with the elastomeric disc.

Solenoid valve

A balanced valve system, employing either spool or ball valve members can be pulse width modulated using a solenoid actuator. The solenoid actuator is integrally assembled onto the valve and has a rod by which the solenoid armature imparts a valve operating force to the spool or ball valve member. The rod is press fit into the armature during assembly to establish the desired air gap spacing between armature and pole piece. Movement of the armature causes a corresponding movement in the rod which urges the valve member against compression spring forces to the open or unseated position.

Pulse width modulated solenoid valve for variable displacement control

An electromechanical valve apparatus has an electrical winding and a magnetic flux circuit defining a flux path therefor which includes a plurality of adjacent magnetic segments. The segments include a generally cylindrical center segment with a fluid passage, an end segment, an outer segment and a magnetic armature member. At least one of the segments is physically translatable within the valve apparatus along the flux path to adjust a portion of one of the magnetic segments that is in the flux path and the extent of an air gap adjacent the translatable segment. The apparatus includes a non-magnetic seat member which is located near or at the point of highest flux density along the longitudinal axis through the electrical winding. The armature is preferably an elongated member with its closed end located within the electrical winding near the non-magnetic seat member. The seat member and armature are enclosed within a chamber defining body such as the bobbin. In an alternative embodiment, a flat disc member is located at the base of the armature. The flat disc is retained within the base of the armature. When no current is flowing in the winding, the flat disc member rests against an armature seat formed in the chamber defining body and prevents leakage of air from the fluid chamber. A further alternative embodiment allows ready calibration of the valve apparatus via a calibration fixture adopted to translate one of the magnetic segments within the flux path.

Proportional solenoid valve

An electromechanical valve apparatus has an electrical winding and a magnetic flux circuit defining a flux path therefor which includes a plurality of adjacent magnetic segments. The segments include a generally cylindrical center segment with a fluid passage, an end segment, an outer segment and a magnetic armature member. At least one of the segments is physically translatable within the valve apparatus along the flux path to adjust a portion of one of the magnetic segments that is in the flux path and the extent of an air gap adjacent the translatable segment. The apparatus includes a non-magnetic seat member which is located near or at the point of highest flux density along the longitudinal axis through the electrical winding. The armature is preferably an elongated cup member with its closed end located within the electrical winding near the non-magnetic seat member. The seat member and armature are enclosed within a chamber defining body such as the bobbin. In an alternative embodiment, a flat disc member is located at the base of the armature. The flat disc is retained within the base of the armature. When no current is flowing in the winding, the flat disc member rests against an armature seat formed in the chamber defining body and prevents leakage of air from the fluid chamber.
