A method for correcting an LWD image to remove stick slip features includes obtaining an LWD image in a wellbore. Surface depth measurements may be interpolated to obtain interpolated surface depths at selected ones of the depths in the LWD image and evaluated to obtain a first tool status log. The LWD image may be evaluated to obtain a second tool status log. The two status logs may be synchronized to obtain a synchronized log. A stick slip feature may be identified in the LWD image and the image resampled to remove the stick slip feature from the LWD image.

Image based stick slip correction of logging while drilling images

Systems and methods for imaging properties of subterranean formations () in a wellbore () include a formation sensor () for collecting currents (A,B) injected into the subterranean formations () and a formation imaging unit (). The formation imaging unit () includes a current management unit for collecting data from the currents injected into the subterranean formations () and a formation data unit () for determining at least one formation parameter from the collected data. The formation imaging unit () also includes an inversion unit for determining at least one formation property by inverting the at least one formation parameter. The inversion unit is suitable for generating an inverted standoff image and an inverted permittivity image for comparison with a composite image of the formation imaging unit.

System and method for characterizing subterranean formations

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed towards systems and method for characterizing wettability. Embodiments may include acquiring, using at least one processor, multi-physics data and transforming the multi-physics data into transformed data that is more sensitive to wettability than the multi-physics data. Embodiments may further include processing, using a data processing engine, the acquired and transformed data using at least one of a data correlation technique and an inversion technique.

System and method for characterizing reservoir wettability from an imaging technique combined with multiphysics logs and data analytics

Methods and systems for determining petrophysical parameters of a formation are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes acquiring formation data with a borehole imaging tool deployed in a well penetrating a formation and acquiring additional formation data with a dielectric logging tool deployed in the well. The method also includes calibrating the formation data acquired with the borehole imaging tool based on the additional formation data acquired with the dielectric logging tool. The calibrated formation data can then be used in determining a petrophysical parameter of the formation. Additional methods, systems, and devices are also disclosed.

Apparatus and method for obtaining petrophysical images using electrical imager and multi-frequency dispersion measurements

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, via a processor, data from a plurality of imaging buttons disposed on a downhole tool within a borehole, generating, via the processor, a resistivity image, a permittivity image, a standoff curve, a rugosity index curve, a high-resolution image of a relationship between resistivity and permittivity of a section of a geological formation measured by the downhole tool, or some combination thereof based on the data, characterizing, via the processor, one or more vugs, one or more fractures, or some combination thereof based at least on the resistivity image, the permittivity image, the standoff curve, the rugosity index curve, the high-resolution image of the relationship between resistivity and permittivity, or some combination thereof, and identifying, via the processor, one or more rock types based at least on the high-resolution image of the relationship between resistivity and permittivity.

Method and system for formation texture and rock type identification

Methods and systems for obtaining an electrical impedivity and/or resistivity image of a subterranean formation are provided. The electrical impedivity and/or resistivity image can be obtained by determining first formation impedivity data and second formation impedivity data. The first formation impedivity data can be based on a component of the measured impedance data orthogonal a downhole fluid impedance. The second formation impedivity data can be based on an amplitude of the measured impedance data. A combined formation impedivity data can be obtained by combining a portion of the first formation impedivity data based on a first formation impedivity determination process with a portion of the second formation impedivity data based on a second formation impedivity determination process. The electrical impedivity and/or resistivity image of the subterranean formation can then be obtained by using the combined formation impedivity data.

Methods and systems for obtaining an electrical impedivity and/or resistivity image of a subterranean formation

A method and system for determining a rock matrix dielectric permittivity. The method and system use a matching liquid with a temperature dependant permittivity. The matching liquid may be used in an automated and/or downhole system for measuring matrix dielectric permittivity of rock formations.

Matrix permitivity determination

Apparatus and methods for determining the rock solid (matrix) dielectric permittivity for subterranean rocks, such as carbonate rocks, are described. According to some embodiments, this is accomplished by linking the matrix permittivity to the detailed chemical composition of the rock. The linking function is defined by coefficients for each component that can be determined by inversion in a laboratory calibration process such that the function compensates for the permittivity contribution of rock components that may be undetectable through downhole logging procedures.

Predicting carbonate rock solid permittivity

An apparatus and related methods are described for detecting features of a reservoir surrounding a borehole, the apparatus being capable of emitting an electromagnetic wave signal and receiving a signal representing a response of the reservoir to the electromagnetic wave signal, wherein the emitted signal is a broadband signal selected from within the range of 1 Hz to 1000 Ghz and the received signal includes a directional characteristic to provide an azimuthal determination of the direction of a discontinuity within the formation as the discontinuity reflects or scatters at least part of the broadband signal; azimuthally scanning the surrounding formation; and inverting the received signal for deriving at least a distance of the reflecting discontinuity from the borehole using simultaneous inversion of the reflected or scattered wavefield at multiple frequencies.

Single well reservoir imaging apparatus and methods

Systems and methods for analysis of drilling cuttings are described. Complex permittivity is measured of rock cutting samples obtained during drilling operations. The origin of the cuttings is known by flow rate analysis in the drilling system. Various means can be used for rock cutting dielectric measurement. For example, the dielectric measurement can be made by matching the unknown permittivity of the medium to be analyzed to the permittivity of known liquid mixtures by successive saturation and looking for a 'zero-contrast' measurement.

Analysis of drilling cuttings for permittivity

Sensor assemblies including transmitter and receiver antennas to respectively transmit or receive electromagnetic energy. The sensor assemblies are disposed in downhole tools adapted for subsurface disposal. The receiver is disposed at a distance less than six inches (15 cm) from the transmitter on the sensor body. The sensor transmitter or receiver includes an antenna with its axis tilted with respect to the axis of the downhole tool. A sensor includes a tri-axial system of antennas. Another sensor includes a cross-dipole antenna system.
