A tubular solid state lighting device has a pin safety circuit electrically connected to connection pins of the one end. The pin safety circuit comprises two protection components, of different types. In one set of examples, there is an electrically controlled isolation switch and an electronic switch which functions as a high voltage isolation barrier. The switch provides full galvanic contact separation, whereas the isolation barrier provides current protection if the isolation switch is not functional. In another set of examples, there is a mechanically controlled isolation switch and an electrical or electronic isolation barrier. This provides two levels of protection, but requiring only a single manual operation by the installer of the lighting device. It avoids end-of-life protection circuitry being triggered during the installation of the lighting device.

Tubular device for fitting to a tubular light fitting

A tubular LED lighting device () comprising an LED, a driver () for driving the LED, and an electrical connector (). The lighting device further comprises a thermally triggered switch () for prevention of overheating of the electrical connector. The thermally triggered switch is connected in series between the electrical connector and the driver, and the thermally triggered switch is configured to interrupt current in the event of the temperature of the electrical connector meeting a triggering condition. If a significant degree of arcing occurs the electrical connector will heat up such that the triggering condition will be met and the current flow between the electrical connector and the driver will be interrupted. There is also provided a luminaire () comprising the tubular LED lighting device.

The current invention relates to a LED lamp () comprising at least one LED light source (), at least one driver () for powering the LED light source (), at least one input rectifier with a plurality of diodes for converting an AC current from mains into a DC current, providing electrical power to the driver (), the LED lamp () further comprising a safety module comprising one first and one second modules (F, F) for protection against overcurrent and overheating of the EM ballast, the first module (F) being put in series with the driver () and designed to interrupt current in case the driver fails when the LED lamp () is directly connected to the mains, and the second module (F) being designed to interrupt current when at least one of the diodes of the input rectifier fails when the lamp is connected to the mains via an EM ballast.
