A postage meter printer for printing a postage indicia with authentication information. The printer has two printheads. One printhead is supplied with an ink that has the characteristic of being readable by an optical character reader and the second printhead is supplied with a second ink that includes a fluorescent ink. The printer is of a size such that both printheads are able to print in an area prescribed by the postal service as the area to be occupied by a postage indicia.

Dual color non-impact printing for postage meters

Inks have been discovered that may be used for providing additional security to the printed matter to which the ink has been affixed. A single ink provides the foregoing result by being fluorescent and phosphorescent.

Fluorescent and phosphorescent tagged ink for indicia

A postal indicia is disclosed that contains markings thereon which may be used to distinguish between availability or non availability of additional security and sorting information. The foregoing will make the handling of the mail faster and more efficient. The ink that is used to print portions of the indicia is fluorescent for conventional indicia printing and fluorescent and phosphorescent for value added bit map generated printing.

Luminescent facing marks for enhanced postal indicia discrimination

An ink dispensing device is disclosed wherein the ink releasing member comprises two layers that serve different purposes. The layer which contacts a printing font is made of a porous material that has an open pore size of less than 30 microns and a porosity of 40% to 85%. The second layer is adjacent to the contact layer and is made from an elastic foam with larger pore size, in the range of 80 microns to 1000 microns and a porosity of greater than 70%. The second layer is impregnated with ink and acts as a reservoir for the first layer, the latter serving as a metering member.

Sustained release ink dispenser

A homogeneous fluorescent ink has been conceived that has particular use in devices such as inking components of postage meters. The inks are in the form of solutions, and contain a soluble fluorescent toner that is dissolved within a polar organic solvent. Additives can be used to modify the properties of the ink.
