A plurality of histograms are maintained with respect to a dataset. The dataset includes a plurality of data segments. In response to a query that includes a plurality of conditions ordered in an initial sequence, a plurality of corresponding rejection rates is determined for the plurality of conditions based at least in part on the plurality of histograms. The plurality of conditions are re-ordered according to the plurality of corresponding rejection rates associated with the plurality of conditions to form a reordered sequence for the plurality of conditions. The query is executed according to the reordered sequence of the plurality of conditions.

Dual filter histogram optimization

A query for data stored in a database that includes a set of segments is received at a computer system. The set of segments are divided into a plurality of columns and at least one column of the plurality of columns includes one or more fields. The system analyzes the query to determine fields required to be retrieved from the database. The system determines whether a required field of the query is located in a main memory of the computer system. The system creates an input/output request for a column containing the required field for a plurality of segments of the set of segments prior to executing the query.

Predictive memory management

A set of data storage values is received. It is determined that a data storage value in the set will not fit in an available memory segment including variable data column widths based at least in part on data sizes specified in a plurality of segment layout maps. A memory segment is selected for which a column width of a column will be expanded. A column width of the selected memory segment is expanded. A segment layout map corresponding to the selected memory segment is updated. The set of data storage values is stored in the selected memory segment.
