The present invention relates to halogen-free, oligomeric or polymeric phosphonic acids made up of units of the general formula (I)&#x2014;[(O)&#x2014;{R(X)(Y)}R(X)]&#x2014;[(O)&#x2014;R(X)]&#x2014;&#x2003;&#x2003;(I),where: where the radicals X are substituents on Rand Rand the radicals Y are parts of polymer or oligomer chain, to a process for preparing these compounds and also to halogen-free mixtures comprising one or more compounds of the general formula (I) and a nitrogen-free solvent having a boiling point of &#x3e;150&#xb0; C.

Oligomeric and polymeric aromatic phosphonic acids, their blends, processes for preparing them and uses as polyelectrolytes

Process for preparing polymeric aromatic phosphonates and also polymeric aromatic phosphonates which can be prepared by the process of the invention and blends comprising these polymeric aromatic phosphonates and at least one further polymer and also films, composites and membranes comprising these polymers or blends, the use of the membranes of the invention in fuel cells or in separation technology and also fuel cells comprising the membranes of the invention.
