Methods and systems are provided for deploying a cellular communication network, including basestation systems. A basestation system may include a plurality of femtocells including at least a first femtocell and a second femtocell, with the first femtocell being operable to support an operation in a coverage area corresponding to the second femtocell. A first transmission within the coverage area from the first femtocell may be coordinated with a second transmission within the coverage area from the second femtocell. The plurality of femtocells may further include a third femtocell, and a first reception by the first femtocell may be coordinated with a second reception by the third femtocell. The transmissions and/or receptions may be coordinated in one or more of time, power, and frequency.

Method for deploying a cellular communication network

Methods and systems are provided for managing communication between a digital subscriber line access multiplexer and customer devices. A downlink communication signal may be communicated to a customer device concurrently via a direct customer line connected to the customer device and at least one other customer line connected to another customer device. Communication of signals may be managed, the managing including configuring the downlink communication signal to generate a total received signal at the customer device. The total received signal corresponds to a combining of a first received signal, corresponding to communication of the downlink communication signal via the direct customer line, and a second received signal, corresponding to crosstalk effects, at the customer device, of communication of the downlink communication signal via the at least one other customer line. The downlink communication signal is configured to increase power of the total received signal compared to the first received signal.

Digital subscriber line access multiplexer for sending communication signals to customer devices

Methods and systems are provided for deploying a cellular communication network, including basestation systems. A basestation system may include a plurality of femtocells comprising at least a first femtocell and a second femtocell, with the first femtocell being configured to support an operation in the second femtocell, and a first transmission from the first femtocell being coordinated with a second transmission from the second femtocell. The plurality of femtocells may also include a third femtocell, and a first reception by the first femtocell may be coordinated with a second reception by the third femtocell. The coordination of transmissions and/or receptions may be based on one or more of time, power, and frequency.

Methods and systems are provided for communication between moving objects and land-based systems. A virtual multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) array may be established for communications between a transportation object and a communication network. The virtual MIMO array may include at least a network transceiver of the communication network that is in proximity to the transportation object or a path of the transportation object, and at least a first transceiver and a second transceiver from a plurality of transceivers in the transportation object. Communications may be setup with the network transceiver via the first transceiver, and the communications may be configured for use of the virtual MIMO array. The configuring may include determining when the second transceiver comes within communication range of the network transceiver due to movement of the transportation object, and based on the determination, communicating at least some signals via the second transceiver using the virtual MIMO array.

Establishing wireless communication between a train and base stations

Methods and systems are provided for sending and/or receiving communication information by a digital subscriber line access multiplexer to customer devices at one or more customer premises, via customer lines. In particular, the digital subscriber line access multiplexer may be configured to send a communication signal, for a particular customer device, concurrently via more than one customer line. The digital subscriber line access multiplexer may enhance a communication signal, received from a particular customer device, via a particular customer line, such as using a second communication signal received concurrently from the particular customer device via a second customer line.

Methods and systems are provided for managing communication networks. In a communication network that includes a plurality of cells, one or more antennas in a first cell from the plurality of cells may be configured to support operations in a second cell from the plurality of cells. The configuring may include arranging or causing the arrangement of the one or more antennas of the first cell to be directed towards the second cell, and configuring the one or more antennas of the first cell to use at least one same channel resource as used by antennas of the second cell, for communicating of signals of the second cell. The same channel resource may include a common channel. In some instances, the second cell may be configured to communicate with at least one communication device located within the second cell without use of any antenna of the second cell.

One or more communication channels may be setup for communicating between a first transceiver from a plurality of transceivers in a transportation object and a network transceiver of a communication network that is in proximity to the transportation object. Channel related data may be determined for the first transceiver; and the determined channel related data may be determined to a second transceiver that is determined to come within communication range of the network transceiver due to movement of the transportation object. The channel related data may then be used for communicating via the one or more communication channels with the second transceiver. Cooperative communication schemes may be used when communication via the one or more communication channels. The cooperative communication schemes may comprise use of one or both of spatial diversity and spatial multiplexing.

Methods and systems are provided for optimizing communication networks, such as cellular communication networks. A super-cell may be configured a communication network, with the super-cell comprising a central cell and at least a part of one cell adjacent to the central cell, with antennas of the super-cell comprising one or more antennas of the adjacent cell, and where the configuring of the super-cell comprises arranging the one or more antennas of the adjacent cell to be directed towards the central cell. The configuring of the super-cell may comprise configuring antennas of the super-cell such that signals from the antennas use at least one same channel resource. The super-cell may be configured to communicate with at least one communication device located within the super-cell without use of any antenna of the central cell of the super-cell.

Methods and systems are provided for communication between moving objects (e.g., a train) and land-based systems (e.g., base stations of mobile wireless networks). For example, wireless communication may be established between a train and one or more base stations arranged along a track travelled by the train. In some instances, multiple-input and multiple-output arrays may be configured, comprising antennas of one or more communication relays arranged on the train, and the one or more base stations. Communications may be performed concurrently via multiple communication channels, such as channels of a MIMO arrays, using cooperative communication schemes for example. Channel state information (CSI) may be stored, remotely or locally, such as in a data storage system, and for communicating via the communication channel(s), channel state information may be determined, such as depending on information defining the current location of communication relays used in establishing the channels.

Methods and systems are provided for deploying cellular communication networks. In a cellular communication network comprising a plurality of cells, with each cell comprising at least a base station and one or more antennas arranged to cover the cell, one or more non-adjacent cells may be selected use as central cells. In this regard, for each central cell, a super-cell may configured, comprising the central cell and at least a part of one or more cells adjacent to the central cell, with antennas of the super-cell comprising one or more antennas of the one or more adjacent cells. The configuring of the super-cell may comprise arranging the one or more antennas of the one or more adjacent cells to be directed towards the central cell; and configuring antennas of the super-cell such that signals from the antennas use at least one same channel resource.

A method for deploying a cellular communication network may comprise reconfiguring the cellular communication network from an initial state to a reconfigured state, with the cellular communication network comprising in the initial state a plurality of cells, with each cell comprising at least a base station and one or more antennas arranged to cover the cell. The reconfiguring may comprise selecting non-adjacent cells for use as central cell(s), and for each central cell, one or more antennas in base stations of cells that are adjacent the central cell may then be arranged to be directed towards the central cell, thereby defining a super-cell comprising the central cell and at least part of the adjacent cells. Use of the antennas of the super-cell may be coordinated as to communications with mobile devices located within the super-cell, wherein the signals from the antennas of the super-cell may use the same channel resources.

Aspects of the present invention relate to a method, and various systems operable or arranged to implement that method, of generating a network map illustrating availability of network access technologies in various locations of the network. The method may comprise the following steps: (a) sending, by a first network unit, the location of which is identified by a first identifier, first data to a second network unit, the location of which is identified by a second identifier, whereby the first data is sent using at least two different network access technologies and is sent to at least two different possible locations for the second network unit; (b) receiving by the first network unit from the second network unit, first measurement data relating to the sent first data; and (c) generating the network map based on the measurement data, the first identifier and the second identifier.
