A system that detects heartbeats includes a sensor or a transducer and algorithms based on deep learning. The algorithms employ techniques of artificial intelligence that enable the system to extract heartbeat features under low signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) conditions when a user is exercising. The algorithms can be applied to various technologies for heart rate monitoring such as ultrasound Doppler, photoplethysmogram (PPG), electrocardiogram (EKG), acoustic, pressure/force sensing and laser/RF Doppler, among other types of sensing methods.

Deep learning algorithms for heartbeats detection

A convenient low-cost heart rate monitor. In one embodiment, a digital filter structure includes a low pass filter having a notch at 60 Hz and a bandpass filter which amplifies signals in a frequency range from 10-40 Hz and has a notch at 60 Hz. This digital filter has a recursive structure and uses integer coefficients to simplify and speed up the calculations. A four bit microcontroller may implement the digital filter. The output of the digital filter is subject to enhancement signal processing to emphasize QRS complexes indicative of human heartbeats.

A heart rate monitor for calculating heart rate based upon EKG signals. The monitor preferably utilizes 3 electrodes to pick up EKG signals and a differential amplifier to cancel common mode signals in the output of the electrode. An analog bandpass filter comprised of a low pass and high pass filter in series each with different rolloffs filters out low and high frequency components. The signals are digitized and digital filtering to remove power line hum and remnants of low and high frequency noise is performed. Then the EKG signals are digitally enhanced by differentiating and squaring the results of the differentiator then being averaged in a moving average computation so as to generate enhanced digital data. The enhanced digital data is then processed to learn the EKG characteristics, and a heart rate arbitrator processes the incoming signals to select out actual EKG complexes from EMG noise and other noise. The EKG isolation process is done using rules of reason and the learned characteristics of the EKG signal.

An envelope feeder using a combination of frictional force differentiation and three discrimination edges, two of which are provided by flexible materials spaced apart from and on either side of a metal envelope separating plate to prevent multiple envelope feeds into printers. The flexible plate on the media side of the metal envelope separating plate is at a more acute angle to the vertical than the metal envelope separating plate, and the metal envelope separating plate of the invention is at a more acute angle than the angles used by metal envelope separating plates in the prior art. A third discrimination edge is provided by a flexible plate which is behind the metal envelope separating plate and which has an angled portion which is longer than the angled portion of the metal envelope separating plate so as to extend past the end of the angled portion of the metal envelope separating plate by about 0.15 inches.

High capacity, low jam envelope feeder for laser printer

A control system for a host device sheet feeder that lengthens the life of the input feed roller of the host device by reducing drag on the sheet of paper being dragged into the host device by the feed roller thereof. Drag is reduced by sensing when a sheet of paper has been pushed far enough into the paper path to be close to engagement with the input feed roller of the host device. Then the control system pushes the sheet of paper a predetermined distance further until it engages with or is about to be engaged with the host device feed roller and starts being drawn into the host device. When the sheet of paper has travelled the predetermined distance, the control system drops a movable floor of the paper magazine of the sheet feeder sufficiently to take the top sheet of paper out of contact with the feed roller of the sheet feeder. This reduces or eliminates the drag associated with pinching of the top sheet of paper between the feed roller of the sheet feeder and the next sheet of paper down in the stack. In an alternative embodiment, the feed roller of the sheet feeder can be selectively raised so as to be out of contact with the back end of the sheet of paper being drawn into the host device to eliminate drag after the sheet has been engaged by the feed roller of the host device.
