A heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system includes at least one indoor air quality monitor. The indoor air quality monitor is formed with an arrangement of chambers—intake chamber, low-flow chamber, and outlet chamber—such that a particulate sensor on an interior and another air quality sensor are neither overwhelmed nor underwhelmed by air flow to the sensors. The indoor air quality monitor may be arranged for attaching to a surface in a conditioned space for sampling air therein or may include a bypass chamber that fluidly couples to an HVAC duct.

Indoor air quality monitors for HVAC systems

A controller is configured to operate a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system based on a first plurality of particulate matter measurements and a second plurality of particulate matter measurements. The controller is configured to determine an air filter efficiency for an air filter based on the received first plurality of particulate matter measurements and the received second plurality of particulate matter measurements. The controller is further configured to determine if a quantity of particulate matter in an airflow exceeds a first threshold value based on the received second plurality of particulate matter measurements. In response to determining that the quantity of particulate matter in the airflow does exceed the first threshold value, the controller is configured to transmit a notification indicating an action to inspect the air filter.

System and method of operating an HVAC system based on particulate matter and air filter efficiency

An indoor air quality monitor for an HVAC system includes a monitor body formed with a plurality of chambers defined at least in part by chamber walls. A bypass chamber allows for a majority of airflow entering the monitor to pass through. An intake chamber coupled to the bypass chamber allows for a portion of air to be removed for sampling by a particulate sensor. Air from the particulate sensor is discharged to an outlet chamber that is fluidly coupled to a downstream portion of the bypass chamber. The fluid requirements of the particulate sensor are maintained without overwhelming or underwhelming the particulate sensor.

Indoor air quality monitors for commercial HVAC systems

According to some embodiments, a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system comprises a circulation fan, one or more humidity sensors operable to sense humidity data associated with an enclosed space, and a controller. In operation, the controller receives the humidity data from the one or more humidity sensors and receives air quality data associated with at least one air pollutant. The controller determines, based on the air quality data, that a threshold associated with the air pollutant has been exceeded and determines, based on the humidity data, that a threshold associated with humidity has not been exceeded. The controller operates the circulation fan in response to determining that the threshold associated with the air pollutant has been exceeded and the threshold associated with humidity has not been exceeded, the circulation fan operated for filtration purposes while not servicing any conditioning demand.

HVAC system and an HVAC controller configured to operate the HVAC system based on air pollutant data and user comfort

An air filtration media for use with a heating ventilation and air condition (HVAC) system is provided. The filtration media comprises an air filter media layer having a first and second side, a PCO media layer having a first and second side, and a barrier layer positioned between the second side of the air filter media layer and the first side of the PCO media layer. The air filter media layer, barrier layer, and PCO layer are pleated together and enclosed within a frame for placement adjacent a light source within a plenum of the HVAC system.

Air filtration media for air purification

A system comprising a sensor coupled to a filter having a filter type. The sensor measures pressure drop across the filter and communicates with the controller. An air handler pushes air through the filter and communicates with a controller. The controller comprises an interface connection, a memory, and a microprocessor. The interface connection receives the air flow rate of the air handler and the pressure drop across the filter. The memory stores the relationship between pressure drop and air flow rate for a filter of the same filter type when the filter is clean and when the filter is exhausted. The memory also stores the relationship between pressure drop and the life of a filter of the filter type. The processor determines the remaining life of the filter using the received and stored information. The display receives information from the controller and displays the information.
