A surgical device includes a jaw assembly defining a first longitudinal axis and including a first jaw and a second jaw moveable relative to the first jaw; an elongated body defining a second longitudinal axis and coupled to a proximal end of the jaw assembly, wherein the jaw assembly is configured to articulate about an articulation axis transverse to the second longitudinal axis relative to the elongated body; and a handle assembly coupled to a proximal end of the elongated body and including at least one motor mechanically coupled to the jaw assembly and a control assembly including a first control button and a second control button, wherein actuation of the first control button moves the second jaw in approximation relative to the first jaw and actuating the second control button moves the second jaw away from the first jaw, and actuating the first and second control buttons moves the jaw assembly to a centered position in which the first and second longitudinal axes are substantially aligned, the handle assembly further includes an illumination member configured to output a light pattern indicative of a status of the surgical instrument.

Apparatus for endoscopic procedures

Surgical instruments include a first drive assembly having a first drive gear and a lockout mechanism positioned for releasable engagement with the first drive assembly to inhibit rotation of the first drive gear. The lockout mechanism includes a pawl and an actuator means for moving the pawl from a first position in engagement with the first drive gear to a second position spaced from the first drive gear.

Lockout mechanisms for surgical instruments

An adapter assembly includes a switch actuator, an actuation bar, and a latch. The switch actuator is movable between a proximal position, in which the switch actuator actuates a switch, and a distal position. The latch is movable between a first position, in which the latch permits proximal movement of the switch actuator, and a second position, in which the latch prevents proximal movement of the switch actuator. The latch is configured to move from the first position toward the second position in response to the actuation bar moving toward a proximal position.

Handheld electromechanical surgical system

A surgical stapler includes a loading unit having a staple cartridge having a cartridge distance and a plurality of staples and an anvil to form the plurality of staples upon firing. The surgical stapler also includes a shaft assembly coupled to the load unit. The shaft assembly includes a drive shaft longitudinally movable within the shaft assembly and configured to actuate the loading unit. The surgical stapler further includes a handle assembly having a power source and a motor coupled to the power source and configured to move the drive shaft longitudinally. The handle assembly also includes a distance setting interface including a plurality of switches each of which corresponds to a travel distance that the motor moves the drive shaft, the travel distance corresponding to the cartridge distance.

Low-cost powered stapler with end stop selection

The present disclosure relates to devices, systems and methods for endoscopic suturing or stitching through an access tube or the like. An endoscopic stitching device is provided and includes a handle assembly; an elongate shaft supported by and extending from the handle assembly; and an end effector supported on a distal end of the elongate shaft. The end effector includes a neck assembly configured and adapted for articulation in one direction between a substantially linear configuration and an off-axis configuration, and a pair of juxtaposed jaws pivotally associated with one another. Each jaw defines a suture needle receiving recess formed in a tissue contacting surface thereof.

A powered handheld electromechanical surgical device includes a motor configured to drive extension and retraction of a drive component, a sensor configured to sense force exerted on the drive component during extension of the drive component, and a controller including a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to receive the sensed force from the sensor, control a speed of the motor during extension of the drive component in accordance with the sensed force, determine a speed profile or a force profile during extension of the drive component, and control a speed of the motor during retraction of the drive component in accordance with the speed profile or the force profile.

A surgical device is provided. The outer shell housing includes a coupler configured to transmit a rotation from the rotatable drive shaft through the outer shell housing, a control button(s) operatively positioned such that actuation of the control button actuates the control interface, and a pass-through connector configured to transmit electrical communications from the electrical receptacle through the outer shell housing.

A surgical system includes: an adapter assembly; an end effector configured to couple to a distal portion of the adapter assembly; and a surgical device configured to couple to a proximal portion of the adapter assembly. The surgical device includes: a power source; a motor coupled to the power source, the motor configured to actuate at least one of the adapter assembly or the end effector; and a controller operatively coupled to the motor and configured to calibrate the motor while at least one of the adapter assembly or the end effector is actuated by the motor.

An authentication and information system for use in a surgical stapling device includes a handle assembly having a controller, the controller having at least one program and a memory, an adapter assembly, and a loading unit having a tool assembly mounted for articulation and a member for actuating articulation of the tool assembly, the loading unit having at least one chip assembly having a chip storing data indicating a position of the member when the tool assembly is in a fully articulated position.

A surgical instrument is disclosed, the instrument including: a handle assembly; a jaw assembly including a staple cartridge containing a plurality of staples and an anvil to form the plurality of staples upon firing; a lockout mechanism configured to prevent reuse of the jaw assembly; a drive assembly at least partially located within the handle and connected to the jaw assembly; a motor operatively coupled to the drive assembly; and a controller operatively coupled to the motor, the controller configured to control supply of electrical current to the motor and to monitor a current draw of the motor, wherein the controller is further configured to terminate the supply of electrical current to the motor in response to a drop in the current draw.
