A gas turbine engine includes a turbomachine having a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section. The turbine section includes a band having an upstream end and a downstream end. The band extends between the upstream end and the downstream end, and the band at least partially defines the working gas flow path. A plurality of airfoils extend into the working gas flow path from the band. Each airfoil of the plurality of airfoils includes a leading edge, a trailing edge, a first side, and a second side opposite the first side. Each of the plurality of airfoils is substantially symmetric across an airfoil centerline extending through a center of each of the plurality of airfoils. The band defines a valley portion adjacent the leading edge of each of the plurality of airfoils and a pair of hill portions on opposing sides of the valley portion.

Gas turbine engine with bow wave mitigation

A turbine airfoil is provided. The turbine airfoil defines a chord line, a spanwise direction, a span along the spanwise direction, and a midpoint along the spanwise direction. The turbine airfoil includes a pressure side and a suction side. The pressure side and the suction side intersecting at a leading edge and a trailing edge. The turbine airfoil further includes a root and a tip at opposing ends along the spanwise direction. In addition, the turbine airfoil defines a leading edge reference line extending from where the leading edge meets the root to where the leading edge meets the tip and a trailing edge reference line extending from where the trailing edge meets the root to where the trailing edge meets the tip. The turbine airfoil includes a lobe positioned at the leading edge or the trailing edge and defines a maximum axially height relative to the leading edge reference line or the trailing edge reference line. The maximum axial height being equal to at least five percent of the chord line of the turbine airfoil.

A turbine engine includes a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section, and an airfoil with an outer wall defining a pressure side and a suction side and extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge to define a mean camber line. A first thickness is defined between the pressure side and the suction side at a first location along the mean camber line.

A blade assembly for a gas turbine engine having an engine casing, with the blade assembly being configured to rotate about a rotational axis. The blade assembly having a blade, and at least one fin. The blade extending between a root and a tip, with the tip being spaced radially from the engine casing to define a space therebetween. The at least one fin extending radially with respect to the tip and into the space.

A turbine engine stage includes a plurality of airfoils extending between an inner band and an outer band. Each airfoil in the plurality of airfoils can have an outer wall defining a pressure side and a suction side, with the outer wall extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge. An intervening flow passage is defined between two adjacent airfoils in the plurality of airfoils.

A turbine engine includes a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section. Fuel combusted in the combustion section drive stages of airfoils in the turbine section to drive the compressor section. The airfoils can include a geometry near or at the trailing edge with a linear portion provided between the pressure side and a first curved portion, to reduce shock generated in the wake of the airfoils.

A blade includes an airfoil body defined by a concave pressure side outer wall and a convex suction side outer wall that connect along a leading edge and a trailing edge. The blade also includes a first corrugated surface extending from the trailing edge to the leading edge on an outer surface of the concave pressure side outer wall, and/or a second corrugated surface extending from the trailing edge to the leading edge on an outer surface of the convex suction side outer wall. The blade acts to reduce flow velocity losses associated with wake mixing by accelerating the mixing process from the source of the wake to minimize inflated unsteady mixing that occurs within a downstream blade row.

A vane for a turbomachine includes a pressure surface and a suction surface opposite the pressure surface. The pressure surface and the suction surface define a width therebetween. The vane also includes a first end. The first end includes a distal portion, a proximal portion, a pressure surface first portion, and a suction surface first portion. At least one of the pressure surface first portion and the suction surface first portion slope away from the other of the pressure surface first portion and the suction surface first portion such that the width increases from a first end minimum width at the proximal portion to a first end maximum width at the distal portion.

Turbomachine including a vane and method of assembling such turbomachine

A turbine of a turbomachine is provided and includes opposing endwalls defining a pathway for a fluid flow and a plurality of interleaved blade stages and nozzle stages arranged axially along the pathway. The plurality of the blade stages includes a last blade stage at a downstream end of the pathway and a next-to-last blade stage upstream from the last blade stage. The plurality of the nozzle stages includes a last nozzle stage between the last blade stage and the next-to-last blade stage and a next-to-last nozzle stage upstream from the next-to-last blade stage. At least one of the next-to-last blade stage and the next-to-last nozzle stage includes aerodynamic elements configured to interact with the fluid flow and to define a throat distribution producing a tip strong pressure profile in the fluid flow.

Turbine blade assemblies of a turbine include airfoils that are mounted on bases. The leading and/or trailing edges of the bases are provided with curved portions. Likewise, curved portions may be provided on leading and/or trailing edges of the angle wings of a turbine blade assembly. Also, curved portions may be provided on the leading and/or trailing edges of nozzle assemblies of a turbine.

Non-axisymmetric airfoil platform shaping

A flow directing assembly for use in a turbine engine comprising: a plurality of circumferentially spaced blades, each of the blades including a radial projecting airfoil with a concave pressure side and a convex suction side that extend from a platform; and a plurality of flow passages, each flow passage defined by the airfoils of neighboring blades and an inner wall formed by abutting platforms of neighboring blades, the inner wall forming the inner radial boundary of the flow passage; wherein the inner wall of one or more of the flow passages comprises means for reducing frictional losses between the flow through the turbine engine and the inner wall. The means for reducing frictional losses may comprise a non-axisymmetrical trough positioned between neighboring airfoils that is configured to reduce frictional losses.

Methods and apparatus relating to improved turbine blade platform contours

An article of manufacture having a nominal profile substantially in accordance with Cartesian coordinate values of X, Y and Z set forth in a table. The table selected from the TABLE. Wherein X and Y are distances in inches which, when connected by smooth continuing arcs, define airfoil profile sections at each distance Z in inches. The profile sections at the Z distances being joined smoothly with one another to form a complete airfoil shape.
