A method of presenting data on a mobile device is provided, comprising reading a compass and an accelerometer for sensing orientation and movement of the mobile device, initiating a local geographic search or query by pointing the mobile device in a desired direction, determining a boundary for search results, the boundary based on a current location of the mobile device, providing the boundary to a server, storing (a) search rules for a given location, (b) localized storage of POI data, and (c) logic for switching the search from a macro database to a micro database, and initiating a geographic query for points of interest (POIs) that have an associated geographic position within the boundary.

Mobile device and automotive device interface for geolocation searching

Interacting between users of mobile devices is provided by initiating a desired interaction at a first user device using a gesture sensed by the first user device, determining a gesture space, submitting a desired interaction request for interaction with associated users within the gesture space, and sending a notification to user devices indicating the desired interaction of the first user with one or more users of a local subset, wherein the notification identifies the first user with an identifier independent of identifiers used by the first user outside of interactions with a remote server.

Mobile device application user interface for gaming, entertainment, and other applications having geographic gesture-based input functionality

A method including monitoring an amount of angular motion of an electronic device for a movement (e.g., casting motion) of the electronic device and determining that the amount of angular motion for the movement exceeds a threshold. A geographic location and a pointing direction of the electronic device may be determined for the movement. A geographic region may be determined based at least in part on the geographic location, the pointing direction of the electronic device, and a yaw component. In some implementations, the geographic region may be determined based on the amount of angular motion for the movement. The geographic region may be used as part of a search query. Places of interest corresponding to the geographic region may be determined and provided for display and selection via a user interface of the electronic device. Selectable transactions for the geographic region may also obtained and presented by the electronic device.

User interfaces and methods for operating a mobile computing device for location-based transactions

An application executing on a mobile device generates a geo-positional query including a time stamp representing the time of the query. The application can be, for example, an augmented reality application, a pointing search application, or a mapping application that searches based on geolocation and/or physical proximity. The query can include, in addition to a location, one or more of a direction, orientation, and camera field of view of the mobile device. A system processes the query to return a time-based state of an object and/or location addressed by the mobile device at the time of the query. The system can use the time stamp to identify which objects may have been located at a certain location at a certain time and/or to identify the state of located objects at a certain time. For example, the state of an electronic billboard can identify an advertisement displayed at the time.

A method of transaction processing provides for obtaining gesture parameters, deriving a gesture area from the gesture parameters, querying a point of interest (POI) database system for a matching set of POIs, wherein a POI of the matching set of POIs is a matching POI matching the gesture area when a POI location of the POI and the gesture area meet a matching requirement, providing the matching set of POIs, or information thereof, to the initiator, identifying a selected POI from among the matching set of POIs, identifying a potential respondent device of a potential respondent associated with the selected POI, determining whether the potential respondent is to proceed with a transaction with the initiator and be a respondent, wherein the respondent interacts via a respondent device, obtaining transaction details from the initiator device, the respondent device, or both, and processing the transaction.

Systems and methods for the accessing of information that may be associated with static or dynamic geo-located objects, which objects may or may not have corresponding real world counterparts, utilize attributes including of one or more angles of directional access associated with the geo-located objects. Information available to a user of a mobile device can be varied depending upon an angle of directional access derived from the mobile device's real world position and pointing direction in relation to the real world position and orientation of the geo-located objects.
