The present application is concerned with a method for loading configuration data to a first Intelligent Electronic Device IED in a Substation Automation SA system, wherein the SA system included a second IED connected to the first IED via a communication network. The method includes: determining a first SID for the first IED by means of a neighbour ship relation, wherein the neighbour ship relation is predefined and indicative of a relative arrangement of the first and second IED in the communication network; assigning the first SID to the first IED; and obtaining first configuration data corresponding to the first SID, and loading the first configuration data to the first IED. The Global Identification GID of the first IED may be determined from the communication network, and the first SID can be linked with the GID of the first IED. The present application concerns also an active IED for configuration of a new or replaced IED in the substation system, according to the above mentioned method.

Method for automated configuration of an IED

A method is disclosed for providing a network bridge between a source and a receiving network of a communication network, wherein the network bridge includes two content-bridging nodes connected between the source and the receiving networks according to a redundancy schema defined in IEC62439-3. The method can include assigning a common source network node identifier to the two content-bridging nodes; receiving, by each of the two content-bridging nodes, network traffic within the source network; and forwarding, by each of the two content-bridging nodes using the source network identifier, the network traffic from the source to the receiving networks.

Redundant content bridging between substation communication networks

A Substation Automation (SA) system is configured to perform protection functions for a bay of an electrical power distribution substation, receive, via a communication link, redundancy protection commands from a remote center, and execute the redundancy protection commands for the bay. The SA system is configured to transmit to a redundant protection server of the remote center, process values measured by measurement equipment of the substation, and to receive, from the redundant protection server, and forward, via the process bus, the received redundancy protection commands directed to operating equipment of the substation. Thus, for multiple SA systems, redundant protection functions are implemented and provided cost-efficiently by one common remote central unit.

Exemplary methods and systems are directed to a process control system having a main control device for controlling a primary equipment of the primary system and a backup control device for controlling the primary equipment in case of a failure of the first control device. A command redirection device for the process control system, is adapted to receive a control command destined to the main control device, and to redirect, in the event of a failure of the main control device, said control command to the backup control device.

Redundant control for a process control system

A method and device automatically extract, to a maximum extent, reliability-relevant information from a Substation Configuration Description (SCD) file describing an electric power transmission or distribution substation. The information in the SCD file is used to identify the physical topology of a communication network of a Substation Automation (SA) system, and all dataflow relating to a given SA functionality or Logical Node (LN). An LN reliability measure for the latter is calculated, involving reliability indications specific to each element or device participating in the dataflow. A number of LN reliability measures are consolidated to produce an overall reliability for the SA system architecture or communication network topology. The method and tool minimize the engineering effort required to perform a reliability calculation, and thus allow comparing the reliability of different SA architectures with minimal effort and intervention of a reliability engineer.

Reliability calculation for Substation Automation systems

Exemplary embodiments are directed to a redundancy scheme for bay protection in Substation Automation (SA) that prevents a single failing Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) of the SA system from impairing the operation of a bay of a substation. A protection IED assigned to a home or host bay of a substation of an electric power system performs the protection functions of the bay to which it is assigned, plus protection functions of at least one of its neighboring bays. As a result, each bay can be managed by two different protection IEDs, wherein redundancy is achieved without a dedicated redundant protection IED for each bay. Whenever required to do so, the protection IED receives, from appropriate sensors, information about a status or value of a process quantity from the neighboring bay, computes or executes protection functionality such as overcurrent, overvoltage or earth fault on behalf of the neighboring bay, and issues commands directed to actuators of said neighboring bay.

Substation automation with redundant protection

The present disclosure is concerned with generating a unique representation of a physical asset from a plurality of datasets representing information relating to the physical asset. Each dataset is generated by a system that acquires the dataset in a system-specific format. Each dataset that includes information about the attributes of a physical asset is mapped to a corresponding system-specific global dataset, based on a global data model. The global system-specific datasets generated are merged together to generate a global dataset, based on the global data model. The global dataset therefore uniquely represents the physical asset.

Generating a unique representation of physical assets

The present disclosure facilitates the interoperability between different local applications. Related local data objects are referenced via global objects or reference containers within a global data model or a global address space of an integration solution. The present disclosure assumes that the integration solution is per default in a consistent state, e.g., an engineered or initially configured global address space is regarded as consistent, and all software components that operate within this space assume that the information they access is valid and likewise consistent. The local applications are the only components that can interact with the global address space and introduce invalidations, they are continuously monitored for changes. Invalidation and subsequent synchronization or restoration of consistency is performed upon a particular triggering event related to a change in a local application object (such as an insertion or removal of an object or a modification of an attribute thereof) or related to a changing application or adapter status (component shutdown/startup).
