The disclosure relates to diagnostic, surgical, and/or therapeutic devices for being introduced into the human or animal body or for in vitro examination of human or animal blood samples or other body cells, in particular to an endoscope or a disposable endoscope that includes at least one illumination light guide and/or image guide for transmitting electromagnetic radiation, the illumination light guide or image guide having a proximal end face for incoupling or outcoupling of electromagnetic radiation and a distal end face for incoupling or outcoupling of electromagnetic radiation. The proximal and/or distal end faces consist of plastic elements that are transparent at least partially or in sections thereof, the transparent plastic being biocompatible and/or having non-toxic properties to human or animal cell cultures for exposure durations of less than one day. This allows for the production of assemblies for disposable endoscopes, inter alia.

The present disclosure relates to an optical fiber article and a method for the production of the optical fiber article. The present disclosure in particular relates to the use of the optical fiber article in a fiber bundle as light guide and/or image guide, for example in an endoscope.

Optical fiber article, its production and use

A light guide for industrial, medical, or cosmetic applications is provided, having an outer circumferential surface and at least one end face made of glass, with an optical element made of at least one transparent plastic directly molded to the end face of glass by molding or reactive injection molding, so that the electromagnetic radiation guided in the light guide when in its operational state is directed through the end face of glass into the transparent plastic of the optical element and exits therefrom.

A fiber-optic apparatus for receiving emitted radiation from a diode laser having at least one diode laser bar with a multiplicity of emitters which are arranged in at least one row alongside one another in the direction of their longitudinal axis. The fiber-optic apparatus has at least one optical fiber bundle that is associated with the diode laser bar and into which the laser beam is injected. Each emitter has a multiplicity of associated optical fibers. The optical fibers are hot-fused to one another under pressure and without regulation on the input side in order to form at least one fiber wedge with an inlet surface. The emitters of the diode laser bar are directly associated with at least one inlet surface in order to completely receive the laser light emitted from the diode laser bar.

Step-index optical waveguides are made of multicomponent glass containing a core glass and an outer glass which entirely surrounds the core class. A fiber-optic cable for conducting electromagnetic radiation, contains at least one bundle of individual fibers which encompass the step-index optical waveguides that are made of multicomponent glass containing a core glass and an outer glass that entirely surrounds the core glass on the circumferential wall thereof. These step-index optical waveguides provide great transmission capacity for transmitting data while keeping the transfer characteristics sufficiently durable. Furthermore, the fiber-optic cable is resistant against physical and chemical environmental influences and be protected against radical ambient chemicals. These aims are achieved by the fact that the outer glass of the step-index optical waveguides is provided with a material composition which is largely free from chemical interactions with the core glass when the fibers are drawn and is chemically inactive towards the plastic jacket.

In a method for producing a termination of an optical fiber bundle, the optical fiber bundle is combined at one end in a crimping sleeve, and the crimping sleeve is introduced with the end of the optical fiber bundle into a compression device having a crimping tool which matches the end geometry of the optical fiber bundle. Advantageous effects are achieved by the fact that the crimping sleeve is compression molded over the end of the optical fiber bundle with a predetermined crimping force by the crimping tool, and in that the crimping force is regulated during the compression molding process depending on the material of the crimping sleeve. In this case, the compression molding process is begun, carried out and ended depending on the distance, time and/or force by a regulating unit.
