For more efficient and energy-saving drying of ink and/or coating films in printing machines, the drying or hardening process must be better monitored. Therefore a method is proposed for determining the degree of hardening of one or more printed ink and/or coating films on a substrate that was coated in an intaglio, flexographic or offset printing process. The degree of hardening or drying due to the hardening or drying process is determined indirectly via the change of mechanical and/or viscoelastic properties of the ink and/or coating films on the substrate. An ultrasound measurement is used for this purpose.

Method for noncontact testing of the degree of hardening of ink and coating films

Stock having printed circuits thereon is conveyed in a transport plane by a conveying device, and electronic components carried by a transfer belt are transferred to the stock under pressure exerted by the belt. The electronic components are transferred to the belt by a feed device individually in such a way that the electronic components are accurately positioned on the stock by the transfer device.

The aim of the invention is to simplify the attachment of RFID chips or RFID transponders to packagings. For this purpose, the RFID chips are produced as a single RFID label together with antenna elements that are functionally associated therewith. The chips or transponders can be attached to a packaging by means of corresponding devices during production of the printed material, during a subsequent treatment or finishing process of the printed material, during the preparation of the packaging, during production of the packaging or during filling of the packaging. At the time of attachment, the RFID chips can be tested and initialized. The invention allows to considerably simplify the so far complex processes required to integrate the RFID chips into different types of packaging.

Direct integration of RFID elements into folding boxes

A method of printing an electronic circuit or components thereof uses a printing machine to print a conductive structure on the front printing side (back side of the sheet) of a printing substrate. The sheet is then reversed and a decorative printing motif is printed on the back side in one work step. Alternatively, the circuit or components of a circuit may be printed by having a printing machine for color printing preceded by a printing machine for printing on the back side of the printing substrate. A chip is applied to the printing substrate where the back side of the printing sheet with the printing motif is cooled to prevent any negative effect on the printing motif and/or the printing substrate.

The invention relates to a sheet-guiding device in a printing machine. The object of the invention is to provide such a sheet-guiding device which in a printing/varnishing unit that is not involved in the printing/varnishing process, permits the smear-free passage of the printing material in a printing/varnishing nip. This is achieved in that on the blanket/plate cylinderthere is arranged a printing plate with an ink/varnish-repellent surface coating, it being possible for the blanket/plate cylinderto be driven at the machine speed, and the sheet-carrying cylinderconveying the printed or varnished printing material.

The apparatus includes a first roller () rotatable in a first direction and forming a placement surface for traveling printed sheets, one or more second rollers () mounted parallel to the first roller () for defining a roller nip with the first roller through which the sheets are directed and for exerting a predetermined radial pressing force against the sheets, the second rollers () being rotatable in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the first roller () and at least some of the second rollers () having a heating device for heating the printed sheet in the area of the roller nip between the first and second rollers.

An offset printing machine having a printing blanket cylinder with an outer smooth ink receivable surface and a blanket support layer about the blanket cylinder beneath the printing blanket. The blanket support includes a dimensionally stable support layer and a reversibly compressible functional layer which accommodates uneven surfaces in the printable material so as to effect high-quality, uniform printing in offset printing of such irregular surface material such as corrugated cardboard.

A method and apparatus for processing a printing ink containing inhibitors and oligomers in a printing unit of a rotary printing machine in which the drying times of the printing ink on the printing material is shortened and the printing quality improved. In the illustrated embodiments, the printing unit includes two cylinders that form a press nip in which the printing ink is applied to passing printing material, and a catalyst mixture is applied to the printing material either by one of the cylinders or through an applicator device downstream of said press nip. A device for guiding a sheet as it is conveyed through a deliverer or between printing units of a sheet-fed printing machine is provided. The sheet guiding device includes a guide surface which has a plurality of openings therein and a housing which is arranged below the guide surface and which together with the guide surface defines a flow duct. The guiding device also includes a air system which is in fluid communication with the flow duct. At least one flexible hollow seal member is arranged in the flow duct and is adapted such that it can be selectively filled with a fluid medium which expands the seal member into a sealing position wherein it seals off a predetermined portion of the openings in the guide surface from the air system.

A method and apparatus for cleaning cylinders of a rotary printing machine, and particularly rubber-blanket cylinders, back up cylinders, plate cylinders and form cylinders. The cleaning device includes a housing having an orifice on one side and being moveable between throw-on and throw-off positions with respect to the cylinder, at least one jet device for introducing a cleaning agent in the form of pulverulent abrasive into the housing for forceful direction against the surface of the cylinder for removing impurities therefrom, and a suction device in close proximity to the housing orifice for drawing off and removing from the housing used cleaning agent and removed impurities.
