A damping element for attenuating hydraulic pressure pulses is integrated into a hydraulic chamber of a motor vehicle hydraulic system. The damping element includes a end cap support body and a membrane that fits over a portion of the support body. The membrane has a first side facing towards a source of hydraulic fluid and a second side facing away from the hydraulic fluid source. At least one space is provided between the second side of the membrane and the end cap support body to allow for deformation of the membrane under hydraulic pressure. The membrane has a collar with a lip seal provided for fitting into place on the wall of the hydraulic chamber. At least one second space for receiving hydraulic fluid is defined between the lip seal and a region of the membrane opposite the lip seal.

Damping element for a motor vehicle hydraulic system

A vehicle braking system includes a slip control system operable in an electronic stability control (ESC) mode to automatically and selectively apply the brakes in an attempt to stabilize the vehicle when an instability condition has been sensed. The slip control system is further operable in an adaptive cruise control (ACC) mode to automatically apply the brakes to slow the vehicle in response to a control signal. The slip control system includes a variable speed motor drive piston pump for supplying pressurized fluid pressure to the brakes through a valve arrangement. In the ESC mode, the pump motor operates in an ESC speed range, and in the ACC mode, the pump motor operates in an ACC speed range lower than the ESC speed range. The slip control system further includes an attenuator connected to a pump outlet for dampening pump output pressure pulses prior to application to the brakes. The attenuator includes an elastomeric member located in an attenuator chamber of a housing. The attenuator chamber defines a shoulder and the elastomeric member includes a flange which rests on the shoulder and locates the elastomeric member in a predetermined axial position within the attenuator chamber. An outside wall of the elastomeric member includes circumferentially extending grooves defining ribs between adjacent grooves.

Attenuator for a vehicle braking system

An anti-locking brake system for a land vehicle, which is set up in particular for traction control and vehicle dynamics control, comprises a pump ( ) for actuating a wheel brake ( ) which removes brake fluid from a brake pressure generating unit ( ) and supplies it to the wheel brake ( ), wherein a first valve arrangement ( ) blocks in a non-actuated (normal) position ( ) the connection between the brake pressure generating unit ( ) and an input connection ( ) of the pump ( ) and in at least one actuated position ( ) establishes a primary flow connection (A), a first electromagnetic valve ( ) establishes in a non-actuated position ( ) the connection between an output connection ( ) of the pump ( ) and the brake pressure generating unit ( ), and blocks it in an actuated position ( ), a second electromagnetic valve ( ) blocks the connection between the wheel brake ( ) and the input connection ( ) of the pump ( ) in a non-actuated position, and in an actuated position establishes it, and a third electromagnetic valve ( ) establishes the connection between the output connection ( ) of the pump ( ) and the wheel brake ( ) in a non-actuated position ( ) and blocks it in an actuated position ( ). To generate a more accurate pressure modulation during the operating phase &ldquo;maintain pressure&rdquo; (II), the third electromagnetic valve ( ) is in the actuated position during said operating phase.

Anti-locking brake system for a land vehicle

An anti-locking brake system for traction control and vehicle dynamics control such that a pump for actuating a wheel brake removes brake fluid from a brake pressure generating unit and supplies it to the wheel brake. Disposed between the brake pressure generating unit and an input connection of the pump is a valve arrangement in the form of a 2-connection/3-position valve, which in a non-actuated (normal) position blocks the connection between the brake pressure generating unit and the input connection of the pump. In a first actuating position the valve arrangement establishes a secondary flow connection between the brake pressure generating unit and the input connection of the pump, and in a second actuating position establishes a primary flow connection between the brake pressure generating unit and the input connection of the pump. The primary flow connection has a larger flow cross section than the secondary flow connection.

Anti-locking brake system

In a valve arrangement with a first and a second fluid connection (,), a valve element (,) which is biased into a first position by a spring arrangement (,), in which the first and the second fluid connections (,) are blocked from each other, an actuation means (,) in order to bring the valve element (,) into a second position in which the first and the second fluid connections (,) are in a primary flow connection (A), a relatively large flow cross-section between the fluid connections is to be made, on the one hand, the force to be exerted by the actuation means, on the other hand, is to be relatively low in order to save costs, efforts, as well as installation space. For this purpose it is proposed that a further valve element (,) be provided which is biased into a first position by a further spring arrangement (,), in which the first and the second fluid connections (,) are blocked from each other, and which by means a further actuation means can be brought into a second position in which the first and the second fluid connections (,) are in a secondary flow connection (B), are initially in the secondary flow connection (B) only, and subsequently are in the primary flow connection (B) or in the first and the second flow connection (A, B), with the flow cross-section of the primary flow connection (A) being larger than the flow cross-section of the secondary flow connection (B). In a particularly preferred manner, the inventive valve arrangement is utilised in a lock-protected brake system.

Valve arrangement

A valve arrangement, comprising a first and a second fluid connection (16, 20) of respective, predetermined flow cross-sections, at least one valve element (44) which is biased by a first spring arrangement (106) in a first position in which the first and second fluid connection (16, 20) are communicating via a flow path, and a valve actuating means (42) by means of which the valve element (44) can be moved in order to assume a second position in which the first and second fluid connection (20) are closed against each other, is characterized in that the bias of the first spring arrangement (106), the force that can be applied to the valve element (44) by the valve actuating means (42), and the flow cross-sections of the fluid connections (16, 20) are dimensioned in such a manner that with a predetermined fluid pressure at the second fluid connection (20), the valve element (44) opens the second fluid connection (20) to such an extent that a flow path is obtained to the first fluid connection (16).
