A multilayer static gasket, stopper region containing distance layer therefor and methods of construction thereof are provided. The gasket includes at least one metal functional layer and at distance layer including a stopper region. The functional layer has a seal bead surrounding at least one passage to be sealed. The distance layer has a thickness extending between generally planar opposite sides, with each of the opposite sides of the distance layer having a plurality of protrusions extending outwardly therefrom and a plurality of depressions extending inwardly therein, wherein the protrusions and depressions form the stopper region. Each of the depressions extends into a separate protrusion, thereby forming an underside of the associated protrusion. The depressions extend into the opposite sides of the distance layer a distance that is equal to or greater than &#xbd; of the thickness of the distance layer.

Multilayer static gasket, distance layer with improved stopper region therefor, and method of construction thereof

A metal static gasket and method of construction thereof is provided. The gasket includes at least one metal layer. The at least one metal layer has opposite sides with at least one through opening extending through the opposite sides configured to register with an opening to be sealed and at least one raised annular seal bead extending at least in part about the at least one through opening. At least one protrusion extends outwardly from at least one of the sides, wherein the at least one protrusion prevents complete flattening of the at least one seal bead. The at least one protrusion has a plurality of discrete layers of metal deposited on one another via an additive manufacture process, wherein the protrusion is formed having a hollow region extending therein.

Static gasket and method of construction thereof

A static gasket and method of construction thereof is provided. The gasket includes a functional layer constructed of one type of metal having an opening bounded by an inner periphery an outer periphery. The gasket further includes a carrier layer constructed of a different metal than the functional layer. The carrier layer has an opening bounded by an inner periphery configured to receive the outer periphery of the functional layer in a line-to-line or loose fit. The functional layer is configured in substantially coplanar relation with the carrier layer with a first portion of the outer periphery of the functional layer being welded to a radially aligned first portion of the inner periphery of the carrier layer. A second portion of the outer periphery of the functional layer remains detached from a radially aligned second portion of the inner periphery of the carrier layer.

Bimetallic static gasket and method of construction thereof

The gasket includes at least one metal functional layer and at distance layer including a stopper region. The functional layer has a seal bead surrounding at least one passage to be sealed. The distance layer has a thickness extending between generally planar opposite sides, with each of the opposite sides of the distance layer having a plurality of protrusions extending outwardly therefrom and a plurality of depressions extending inwardly therein, wherein the protrusions and depressions form the stopper region. Each of the depressions extends into a separate protrusion, thereby forming an underside of the associated protrusion. The depressions extend into the opposite sides of the distance layer a distance that is equal to or greater than &#xbd; of the thickness of the distance layer.

A static gasket configured for establishing a seal between a cylinder head and an engine block including at least one layer having an opening and at least one compression bead. The compression bead extends circumferentially about the opening and projects out of a plane for deforming elastically when the gasket is compressed between the cylinder head and the engine block. A compression limiter which is formed from a metal wire is disposed radially between the opening and the compression bead for preventing the compression bead from being fully flattened, even if the cylinder head is overloaded onto the engine block. The compression bead is preferably induction and/or resistance welded to at least one of the layer(s).

The cylinder head gasket includes a gasket layer which presents an inner periphery that surrounds an opening. The gasket layer has a first thickness adjacent the inner periphery. A combustion seal is positioned in the opening and extends circumferentially around an axis. The combustion seal is joined with the inner periphery of the gasket layer. The combustion seal has a height that is greater than the first thickness of the gasket layer. The combustion seal includes at least one seal body which is generally C-shaped as viewed in cross-section and is resiliently flexible for maintaining fluid tight seals with the cylinder head and the engine block. The C-shaped seal body presents a pocket which faces away from the inner periphery of the of the gasket layer for receiving combustion gasses during use to improve the fluid tight seals established with the cylinder head and the engine block.

Cylinder head gasket

A metal static gasket and method of construction thereof is provided. The gasket includes at least one metal layer. At least one of the metal layers has opposite sides with at least one through opening extending through the opposite sides, with the through opening being configured to register with an opening to be sealed. At least one metal layer of the gasket has least one raised annular seal bead extending adjacent the through opening. A plurality of protrusions extend outwardly from at least one of the opposite sides, wherein the plurality of protrusions are formed from separate pieces of metal from the at least one metal layer and are individually fixed to the at least one metal layer via separate bond joints.

The clutch piston assembly includes a one piece piston body which extends about an axis and has at least one radially inwardly facing surface and at least one radially outwardly facing surface. At least one seal is engaged with the piston body and extends either radially outwardly from the radially outwardly facing surface or radially inwardly from the radially inwardly facing surface. The seal is made of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) or polyaryletherketone (PAEK) for establishing a low friction and fluid tight seal between the piston body and a wall in the automatic transmission.
