The invention provides an aqueous bleaching solution for substrate treatment. The aqueous bleaching solution features a source of oxidant and a plurality of optically functional nanoparticles. The optically functional nanoparticles are nanoparticles in the range of about 0.1 nanometers to about 400 nanometers in size. The aqueous bleaching solution may optionally include one or more an oxidant-stable surfactants and optionally, one or more oxidant-stable polymers, and adjuncts. The optically functional nanoparticles are extremely stable in the aqueous bleaching solution and remain substantially suspended in the aqueous bleaching solution due to their extremely small size despite having an average density greater than that of the bleaching solution. The optically functional nanoparticles provide at least one optical functional benefit to the bleaching solution owing to their uniform and stable suspension throughout the solution, including such benefits as uniform light absorption, light and radiation scattering, fluorescent emission, phosphorescent emission, coloration, and visual aesthetic benefits and the like. Further, optically functional benefits include those benefits provided to a substrate or surface treated with the aqueous bleaching solutions whereby the optically functional property is transferred either temporarily or permanently to the substrate or surface following contact with bleaching solutions containing the optically functional nanoparticles.

Oxidizing bleach composition

The invention provides an aqueous bleaching solution for substrate treatment comprising a source of oxidant and a suspended polymer matrix having a plurality of optically functional particles associated with one or more copolymers present in the polymer matrix. The plurality of optically functional particles are associated with the copolymer during polymerization of at least one hydrophobic and at least one hydrophilic monomer so as to form a polymer matrix useful to impart an aqueous bleaching solution with optically functional properties providing a benefit to the solutions during storage, use and application to substrates for treatment. In accordance with various embodiments of the invention, the suspended polymer matrix forms a substantially stable dispersion of the optically functional particles in the aqueous bleaching solution, and provides compositions, methods and kits for employing aqueous bleaching solutions having optically functional properties that are maintained over substantially long storage times.

The present invention relates to a disinfecting article, a sealable housing system for disinfecting articles, and a disinfecting composition comprising a hypohalite composition and a surfactant, for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, with improved stability and extended efficacy for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces with residues such as foods, dirt, microorganisms and many other common contaminates. The disinfecting article is preferably a wipe that is comprised of high denier fibers and stored in a sealable housing system to ensure the stability of the substrate in the hypohalite releasing solution.

Disinfecting article and cleaning composition with extended stability

Sequestering agents for use as a whitening and fabric strength enhancer for aqueous hypochlorite bleach compositions are provided. It was found that the sequesterants when used with hypochlorite in the presence of soluble heavy metal ions, particularly iron and manganese ions, provide significantly improved whitening and fabric protection. Most preferably, the sequesterants are selected from polyacrylic acid, a polyacrylic acid derivative, a copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and a comonomer which is maleic acid or maleic anhydride and mixtures thereof. In one aspect, the sequesterants are employed in a method for laundering fabrics comprising: a) providing, in a wash liquor containing (i) at least about 40 ppb of iron cations or (ii) at least about 10 ppb of manganese cations, or (iii) the cations of both (i) and (ii), and a fabric piece; and b) adding either prior to, contemporaneously with, or after, the step of providing of said fabric piece to said wash liquor a hypochlorite composition which comprises one or more of said sequesterants. Preferably the sequesterant comprises at least 0.1 ppm by weight of said wash liquor and the hypochlorite composition is an alkali metal hypochlorite and said sequesterant has a molecular weight of between about 500 and 500,000 daltons.

Sequesterants as hypochlorite bleach enhancers

Sequestering agents for use as a whitening and fabric strength enhancer for aqueous hypochlorite bleach compositions are provided. It was found that the sequesterants when used with hypochlorite in the presence of soluble heavy metal ions, particularly iron and manganese ions, provide significantly improved whitening and fabric protection. Most preferably, the sequesterants are selected from polyacrylic acid, a polyacrylic acid derivative, a copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and a comonomer which is maleic acid or maleic anhydride and mixtures thereof. In one aspect, the sequesterants are employed in a method for laundering fabrics that includes the steps of: a) providing, in a wash liquor containing (i) at least about 40 ppb of iron cations or (ii) at least about 10 ppb of manganese cations, or (iii) the cations of both (i) and (ii), and a fabric piece; and b) adding either prior to, contemporaneously with, or after, the step of providing of said fabric piece to said wash liquor a hypochlorite composition which comprises one or more of said sequesterants. Bleaching compositions are provided that comprise a nitrile containing compound that has the nitrile bonded to a quaternary nitrogen through a methylene unit (where one or both of the normal hydrogens can be substituted), and two of the quaternary nitrogen bonds are part of a saturated ring. This saturated ring contains from two to eight atoms in addition to the quaternary nitrogen. A source of active oxygen will react with the nitrile for bleaching applications. Particularly preferred nitrile containing compounds are N-alkyl morpholinium acetonitrile salts.
