An apparatus and method for automatically folding a sheet of a media, for example a photographic paper, about a fold line such that a album page is formed. The photosensitive media has images only on one side. A heat activated adhesive sheet is provided between the sides of the photographic paper during folding. The adhesive sheet when exposed to heated and pressure rollers will cause the sides of the photographic media to be secured to form a single album page.

Film cutting apparatus for removing and separating a film strip from a cartridge, one end of the film strip being secured to a spool within the cartridge, includes a carrier for receiving the film cartridge and moveable between a first position and a second position; a spring connected to the carrier for biasing the carrier toward the first position; a film drive for receiving a leading end of the film strip and pulling the film strip from the cartridge and then pulling the carrier away from the first position when the film strip is fully extracted from the cartridge; a sensor for sensing the movement of the carrier away from the first position and producing a signal in response thereto; and a knife mechanism mounted on the carrier for movement with the carrier and responsive to the signal for separating the film strip from the cartridge while the carrier is moving.

Film cutting apparatus for removing and separating a film strip from a cartridge

A method and apparatus for loading a film cartridge in a camera frame having a cartridge chamber, a supply chamber, and a thumbwheel extending into the cartridge chamber. The film cartridge has a case, an internal spool, and a filmstrip attached to the spool. In the method, the film cartridge is positioned in the cartridge chamber with the spool axially adjoining the thumbwheel. A quill is placed in axial proximity to the spool of the film cartridge, opposite said thumbwheel. The quill is turned in a rewind direction for the spool. Rotating of the spool in the rewind direction is deterred. During the turning, the quill is urged into axial engagement with the spool and the spool is urged into axial engagement with the thumbwheel. Following the urging, a leading portion of the filmstrip is thrust out of the cartridge.

Cartridge loading apparatus and methods

An apparatus for processing photosensitive material. The apparatus includes a processing chamber having an entrance and an exit for allowing a photosensitive material to travel through the processing chamber. A first supply means is provided for supplying processing fluid to the processing chamber to create a first fluid layer on one side of the photosensitive material and a first drain for removing processing fluid from the first fluid layer. A second supply means is provided for supplying processing fluid to the processing chamber to create a second fluid layer on the opposite side of the photosensitive material and a second drain for removing processing fluid from the second fluid layer. Means are provided for minimizing oxidation of the processing solution.

Apparatus for processing photosensitive material

An improvement in an apparatus for processing photosensitive materials. The apparatus includes a processing chamber through which the material can be advanced for processing the material. The processing chamber has an entrance at one end and an exit at the other end to allow the photosensitive material to travel through the chamber. The apparatus further includes a tank for holding a processing fluid. At least one nozzle assembly is provided for supplying processing fluid from the tank to the processing chamber. The nozzle assembly comprises an outer nozzle secured to the tank and an inner nozzle secured to the upper tank. The inner and outer nozzles are spaced apart a predetermined distance so as to form a discharge opening therebetween which is in fluid communication with the processing fluid in the tank so as to create a first fluid layer on one side of the photosensitive material passing through the processing chamber. The inner and outer nozzles have a configuration designed to maintain the predetermined distance between the inner and outer nozzles substantially constant along the length of the discharge opening.

A lockable valve mechanism for introducing a liquid sample into an associated reaction vessel includes a valve body, and a valve member rotatably mounted thereon. The valve member is movable from an open position, wherein inlet and outlet passages of the valve mechanism are aligned for introduction of a sample into the reaction vessel, to a closed and sealed position, wherein the outlet passage of the valve body is sealed. The valve member includes a locking arrangement to prevent movement of the valve member out of the closed and sealed position after movement from the open position into the sealed position.

There is described a device used with a swab to extract biological material collected on the absorbent end of the swab. The device comprises a container having an internal surface defining a major cavity for confining an extracting liquid medium, and means in said container defining a notch extending into a portion of said internal surface, said notch being configured to receive a swab-like collector and to hold such a collector in said major cavity, said notch having one end that is deeper within said cavity than the rest of said notch, said end being configured to hold the absorbent end of such a collector, and centering means in said container for centering a pipette for aspiration of such extracting medium, said centering means being disposed generally about a line that intersects said notch at a point generally adjacent said one end.
