A low-emittance material having improved energy efficiency protection against air infiltration and moisture build-up in buildings is disclosed. The aforementioned low-emittance material utilizes existing framing openings or without increasing the wall profile of a building. The present invention provides a low-emittance material which may be implemented on traditional 2×4 framing having R-15 mass insulation material within existing or newly constructed framing cavities. The material of the present invention also meets requirements for serving as a water resistive barrier as defined by ICC AC38.

High thermal resistance and permeance insulation material

An underlayment that meets underlayment requirements and provides thermal insulation is disclosed. The underlayment includes a core material and an upper emittance layer having an exterior surface. An upper reinforcement layer is positioned between the upper emittance layer and the core material. A first encapsulation layer is positioned between the upper emittance layer and the upper reinforcement layer. A second encapsulation layer is positioned between the upper reinforcement layer and the core material. The underlayment includes a lower emittance layer having an exterior surface. A lower reinforcement layer is positioned between the lower emittance layer and the core material. A third encapsulation layer is positioned between the lower emittance layer and the lower reinforcement layer. A fourth encapsulation layer is positioned between the lower reinforcement layer and the core material.

Low-E housewrap

A multi-layer slab insulation having an aluminum layer, a first foam layer positioned on one side of the aluminum layer, and a second foam layer positioned on another side of the aluminum layer. In one embodiment, the first and second foam layers are polyolefin foam layers such as polyethylene foam and polypropylene foam. The aluminum layer is an aluminum foil and may be provided with strengthening layers. Alternatively, the aluminum layer is a metallized film. Preferably, the various layers are laminated together. In another embodiment, a multi-layer slab insulation includes a first foam layer, and a second foam layer laminated to the first foam layer, at least one of the foam layers being provided with at least one extending lip sized to allow interlocking of the multi-layer slab insulation with an adjacent multi-layer slab insulation.

Slab shield insulation

A multilayer insulation having a plurality of layers laminated together, and a plurality of depressions positioned proximate to edges of the multilayer insulation, the plurality of depressions forming insulated tabs on the multilayer insulation. An adhesive layer may be provided on one or more insulated tabs. In one embodiment, the depressions are positioned and sized to allow folding of the insulated tabs to form an integrated spacer. In another embodiment, the depressions are positioned and sized to allow receiving of an insulated tab of an adjacent insulation. In this regard, the depressions and the insulated tabs are preferably sized the same width to allow interlocking of the multilayer insulation to an adjacent multilayer insulation. A method of installing insulation is also described for providing an integrated spacer or interlocking adjacent insulation pieces. A method of manufacturing insulation with a depression that defines an insulated tab is also described.

Insulation with depressions and method thereof

A multi-layer insulation product which achieves low emissivity values by using at least one layer of metallic foil. The metallic foil (25, 29) is used at exterior locations of the insulation product by way of novel strengthening means positioned below said metallic foil. A central layer of foamed material (21) adds to the insulative effect. The strengthening features of the invention allow use of the insulation product on exterior locations which has not heretofore been possible in the art.
