Manganese sulfate solutions of improved purity are prepared by digesting a combination of a reduced manganese ore with an aqueous acid solution in the presence of a particulate potassium-iron salt byproduct. The salt byproduct is the salt byproduct formed, in situ, by reaction of potassium impurity with ferric ion during digestion of a combination of a reduced manganese ore and an aqueous acid solution.

Manufacture of manganous sulfate solutions

A process for the manufacture of titanium disulfide by the vapor phase reaction of titanium tetrachloride and a sulfur containing gas. The titanium tetrachloride and the sulfur containing gas are preheated separately and the sulfur containing gas is introduced through a supply conduit at an established rate of flow into a reaction zone and the titanium tetrachloride is introduced into the reaction zone with a downstream component of velocity. A refractory material having a mean particle size greater than the titanium sulfide product is introduced into the product gas stream to impinge on the walls of the reaction zone to eliminate titanium disulfide deposition thereon.

Process for the manufacture of titanium disulfide

This invention relates to a process for removing finely divided insoluble particulate materials from crude shale oils. A feed comprising crude shale oil that contains insoluble particulate material is mixed with a solvent and thereafter separated in a first separation zone into a first light fraction comprising the crude shale oil and the solvent and a first heavy fraction comprising the insoluble particulate material, some crude shale oil and some dissolving solvent. The first light fraction then is withdrawn and subjected to a second separation in a second separation zone. In the second separation zone, the first light fraction is separated into a plurality of fractions of crude shale oil and solvent. The crude shale oil fractions then are separated, withdrawn and subjected to subsequent hydrorefining, while the solvent is recovered and recycled to provide additional feed mixture.

Process for the removal of solid particulate materials from crude shale

An improved bipolar electrode having an anodic member and a cathodic member connected in an assembled position spaced a distance apart with a connector constructed of an electrically conductive material disposed between and engaging portions of the anodic member and the cathodic member, the connector mechanically supporting the anodic and the cathodic members in a spaced apart relationship and establishing electrical continuity therebetween.
