Advanced large scale field-erected air cooled industrial steam condenser

An air cooled steam condenser having heat exchanger panels supported in a heat exchange frame section. A bottom bonnet runs along the bottom length of each heat exchanger panel for delivering steam to the bottom end of condenser tubes in the heat exchange panel and for receiving condensate formed in those same tubes. The tops of the tubes are connected to a top bonnet. Uncondensed steam and non-condensables are drawn into the top bonnet from the condenser tubes. A steam distribution manifold is located below the heat exchange section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the heat exchange panels and delivers steam to each heat exchange panel via a single steam inlet located at a center point of each bottom bonnet.

A new heat exchange tube fin design in which a plurality of arrowhead shapes are pressed into or embossed onto each fin, the arrowhead shape defined by two intersecting wedge sections. The pressed arrowhead shapes are grouped into nested pairs, and one of the arrowheads in a pair is pressed as a positive relative to the fin plane and the other of the pair is pressed as a negative relative to the fin plane. The arrowhead pairs are placed in rows parallel to the air flow direction and arrowhead pairs in one row are preferably staggered relative to the arrowhead pairs in the adjacent row along the fin in the air flow direction.

A hybrid heat exchanger apparatus having a heat exchanger device with a hot fluid flowing therethrough includes a cooling water distribution system and an air flow mechanism for causing ambient air to flow across the heat exchanger device. The cooling water distribution system distributes evaporative cooling water onto the heat exchanger device to wet only a portion of the heat exchanger device while allowing a remaining portion of the heat exchanger device to be dry. The air flow mechanism causes ambient air to flow across the heat exchanger device to generate hot humid air from the ambient air flowing across the wet portion of the heat exchanger device and hot dry air from the ambient air flowing across the remaining dry portion of the heat exchanger device. Methods are also described.

Hybrid heat exchanger apparatus and method of operating the same

Large scale field erected air cooled industrial steam condenser. A bottom bonnet runs along the bottom length of the heat exchanger bundle for delivering steam to the bottom end of the condenser tubes and for receiving condensate formed in those same tubes. The tops of the tubes are connected to a top bonnet. Uncondensed steam and non-condensables flow into the top bonnet from the condenser tubes. Each cell of the ACC is fed by steam distribution manifold suspended from and directly below the bundle support framework.

Heat is indirectly transferred between a process fluid and ambient air in apparatus that includes an evaporative heat transfer cell operative in a wet mode or a dry mode, a dry heat transfer cell and a fan. The air may bypass the dry heat transfer cell to flow through a first air passage or may flow through a second air passage through the dry heat transfer cell and in either event, then through the evaporative heat transfer cell. The air may partially flow through and partially bypass the dry heat transfer cell, and then through the evaporative heat transfer cell. The evaporative heat transfer cell optionally may include a direct contact evaporative heat exchanger.

Hybrid heat exchange apparatus

A hybrid heat exchanger apparatus includes a direct heat exchanger device and an indirect heat exchanger device and a method of operating the same encompasses conveying a hot fluid to be cooled from a hot fluid source through the indirect heat exchanger device to a cooling fluid distribution system. The hot fluid to be cooled is distributed from the cooling fluid distribution system onto the direct heat exchanger device. In a hybrid wet/dry mode, ambient air flows across both the indirect heat exchanger device and the direct heat exchanger device to generate hot humid air from the ambient air flowing across the direct heat exchanger device and hot dry air from the ambient air flowing across the indirect heat exchanger device.

A louver module includes a louver module body that extends in a length-wise direction, a width-wise direction and a height-wise direction such that the length-wise direction, the width wise-direction and the height wise direction are oriented perpendicularly relative to one another. The louver module body has a plurality of air passageways extending through the louver module body generally in the width-wise direction. Each one of the plurality of air passageways has a serpentine configuration.

A heat exchanger apparatus includes an inlet header, an inlet connection connected to the inlet header, an outlet header, an outlet connection connected to the outlet header and a plurality of serpentine tube bodies. The plurality of serpentine tube bodies interconnect and are in communication with the inlet header and outlet header. Each serpentine tube body has a plurality of straight tube sections and a plurality of U-shaped return bend sections. Each one of the straight tube sections and each one of the return bend sections have an elliptically-shaped cross-sectional configuration. The plurality of serpentine tube bodies are arranged in a juxtaposed manner with consecutive ones of the serpentine tube bodies contacting each other at a point defining a series of stacked common planes disposed parallel with one another.
