Polymerizable and hydrolysable oxetane silanes and in particular silicic acid condensates which can be prepared therefrom are described, which exhibit only a low volume shrinkage on polymerization and produce polymers with high mechanical strength and therefore can be used above all as dental material or constituent thereof.

The invention relates to vinylcyclopropane derivatives according to the formula ##STR1## in which A is --[--Y--CO--C(.dbd.CH.sub.2)R.sup.4 ].sub.m or --C(.dbd.CH.sub.2)CO--O--C.sub.1-4 -alkyl, U and X, independently of each other, stand for CO, COO or CONH; Y and Z stand for O or NH or are absent, but Y and Z cannot be absent at the same time; n, m stand for a whole number from 0 to 4, but n and m are not 0 at the same time; R.sup.1 is H, CH.sub.3 or Cl; R.sup.2, R.sup.3 stand for H, a C.sub.1 - to C.sub.10 -alkyl or alkylene radical, which can be interrupted by O, S or NH, for a C.sub.6 - to C.sub.14 -aryl or arylene, C.sub.7 - to C.sub.14 -alkylaryl or alkylarylene or a C.sub.5 - to C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl or cycloalkylene radical; and R.sup.4 is H or a C.sub.1 - to C.sub.10 -alkyl radical, and to processes for their production. The compounds are suitable in particular for the production of adhesives, cements, composites and mouldings.

A granular, polymerizable composition which contains at least one polymerizable monomer and/or oligomer and a polymerization initiator and optionally an accelerator and at least 70% by wt. filler and additionally 0.5 to 28% by wt. dendrimer and which becomes flowable under compressive or shear stress. The composition can be packed in similar manner to amalgam and is particularly suitable as dental material or for the production of a dental material.

The present invention relates to novel bicycloaliphatic 2-methylene-1,3-dioxepanes, which are suitable as starting materials for the preparation of polymers and copolymers, preferably of composite and dental materials. The 2-methylene-1,3-dioxepanes according to the invention, which can undergo radical polymerisation with ring opening with only very little volume shrinkage, can be prepared in a simple manner, are easy to purify and to modify chemically, and are characterised by lack of odour and advantageous physical properties.
