A programmable microfiche duplicator and sorter apparatus is provided, including control means which operate in accordance with input data received from a teletype or other remote input peripheral, or from a code carried by the master film. The input data is stored in memory and defines the number of copies to be made, the sorter mode and the sorter start position for collation operations.

A cap assembly is provided for use with a container for storing and supplying aqueous ammonia to a diazo type copying machine. The cap assembly comprises a closure member mounted on the container and a key device associated with free ends of an ammonia feed tube and a drain tube connecting the container to a developer system of the copying machine. The closure member includes a feed outlet to permit ammonia flow from the container to the feed tube and a drain outlet to permit ammonia flow from the drain tube to the container. The closure member also includes a seal adapted for selective actuation by the key device between a first position for closing the feed and the drain outlets to prevent ammonia flow and a second position for opening the outlets to permit ammonia flow. The key device is releasably retained by the closure member when the seal is in the second position and is released from the closure member when the seal is in the first position, to thereby prevent escape of ammonia fumes from the container to the ambient atmosphere during replacement of an empty container with a container providing a fresh supply of ammonia. The key device also includes a lock actuable between a locked position to prevent movement of the key device and actuation of the seal between the first and the second positions, and an unlocked position to permit movement of the key device.

Cap assembly and lock for aqueous ammonia container

The present invention provides a device for eliminating the residue waste of aqueous ammonia solution, comprising a first portion of ammonia gas and a second portion of steam, of a developer system in an ammonia type diazo machine. The device provides for separating the first and second portions, recirculating the first portion to the developer system, condensing the second portion to form water and conveying the water via an inlet duct to an evaporator tank. A heater is provided for heating the evaporator tank to vaporize the water therein and an outlet duct is provided for expelling the water vaporized in the tank to an exhaust system of the machine. The heater is controlled by a first thermostat for maintaining the temperature in the evaporator tank within a working range to vaporize the water, and a second thermostat is provided for sensing a temperature below the working range indicating a heater failure and, in response thereto, initiating stoppage of residue waste flow from the developer system to prevent overflow of water in the evaporator tank.

Developer residue waste eliminator for diazo machines

An apparatus for developing diazotype copy sheets is provided and comprises a duct element having an ingress and an egress end, a distribution element having an ingress end and a closed end, a manifold at the ingress ends of the duct and the distribution elements and a heater element proximate the duct element. All of the elements are enclosed within a developer tank provided with a perforated section adjacent a copy sheet developing station. Aqueous ammonia is supplied to the ingress end of the duct element and travels in a first path by gravity towards the egress end thereof. In its travel in the first path the aqueous ammonia is vaporized by the heater element thereby causing separation of the aqueous ammonia into a first portion of residue water comprising hot water and a trace of ammonia, and a second portion comprising ammonia gas and steam. The first portion exits from the egress end of the duct element to a waste eliminator device and the second portion travels in the opposite direction in the first path to the manifold which directs the second portion to the distribution element for travel in a second path. The second portion is expelled from ports provided in the distribution element to generate a gaseous ammonia atmosphere which passes through the perforated section of the developer tank and impinges upon a copy sheet to be developed at the developing station.

Photocopy developing apparatus for diazo film

A cap assembly is provided for use with a container for storing and supplying aqueous ammonia to a diazo type copying machine. Cap assembly for aqueous ammonia container

A self-priming pump is provided for metering a positive controlled amount of a volatile liquid to a utilization device. The pump comprises a piston means for pumping the liquid from a liquid supply container to a chamber, and from the chamber to a reservoir where the liquid is maintained at a uniform and constant level by an overflow port which drains any excess liquid back to the liquid supply container. The liquid remaining in the reservoir flows through an outlet passage to a well from which the liquid is dispensed in metered units under control of an adjustable needle valve. The needle valve is provided for controlling the rate of feed of the liquid to the utilization device, and is accessible for adjusting the liquid flow while the pump is in operation. The reservoir is also provided with vent means to prevent impediment of liquid flow and, also, to permit liquid flow immediately in response to initial start-up and operation of the pump.

Pump and metering device

A vertical rise sheet feeder is provided comprising means responsive to the weight of a stack of sheets for positioning and maintaining the stack at a feed level for the feeding of a single sheet at a time from the top of the stack. The sheet feeder includes a fixed platform and a vertically movable platform for supporting the stack. The movable platform is powered by a stabilizer means and its movement is regulated by linkage means interconnected by a torsion bar. The torsion bar controls operation of the linkage means in unison and provides a degree of freedom to the movable platform for maintaining the top of the stack in an aligned position such that a feed roller means exerts uniform and equal forces on the sheets to provide for accurate and positive feeding of the sheets from the stack. The feeder also includes a sheet locating and guiding means for maintaining the stack of sheets centered on the movable platform and for guiding the sheets as they are fed from the stack.
