A method for treatment of a sacral insufficiency fracture comprises a plurality of steps. A step is performed for placing an access device within a patient. Such placing of the access device includes causing a distal end portion of the access device to traverse through a sacroiliac joint of the patient and to traverse into the patient's sacrum until the distal end portion of the access device is within a region of the sacrum where a sacral insufficiency fracture is located. Thereafter, a step is performed for delivering bonding material though a portion of the access device into the sacrum at the region thereof where the sacral insufficiency fracture is located.

Methods of treating sacral insufficiency fractures and devices for performing same

A surgical fastener manipulation tool in accordance with embodiment of the present invention is useful by a surgeon to place fasteners such as threaded screws. The surgical fastener manipulation tool selectively engages a mating structure of fastener for securing the fastener thereto. Thus, advantageously, the surgical fastener manipulation tool can be used for placing such fasteners and/or can be used for extracting (i.e., removing) such fasteners. The ability to extract a fastener (e.g., a threaded bone screw) with the same tool used for placing it is highly beneficial due to time savings during a surgical procedure and is advantageous with respect to prior art fastener manipulation tool configurations that require placement and extraction tools to be differently configured.

A bone screw comprises a main body including a shank portion, a head portion attached to the shank portion, and a cap moveably attached to the head portion. The head portion includes a tool interface structure therein having a closed end portion, an open end portion and sidewall extending therebetween. A blade assembly has a blade body and a blade body surround. A retractor attachment structure is attached to the blade body at the first end portion thereof extending from an exterior surface thereof. The retractor attachment structure is configured for having one of the blade body mounting structures of the retractor engaged therewith in a manner whereby the blade body is independently pivotable about and translatable along the blade body mounting structure. An alignment member protrudes from an interior surface of the blade body adjacent its first end portion. A slot extends through the blade body at its first end portion. The blade body surround and the blade body jointly form a generally cylindrical-shaped structure when the blade body is in a seated position within the slot. The cylindrical structure defines a central passage extending between the first and second end portions of blade body surround.

Retractor component system and method comprising same

Pedicle screw apparatuses each including a pedicle screw assembly and an attached pedicle screw extender are placed in a true percutaneous manner, thereby overcoming issues resulting from placing pedicle screw assemblies through a retractor. Thus, a retractor can advantageously be built off of the pedicle screw apparatuses, thereby allowing visualization of the spine anatomy directly. Furthermore, such a method for performing surgery ensures ideal placement of the retractor for additional procedures that are often required such as, for example, decompression, interbody device placement, etc.

Method for performing minimally invasive surgery

A blade system configured for use with a surgical retractor comprising a blade body and a blade body surround. The blade body includes a retractor attachment structure engagable with a blade body mounting structure of the surgical retractor. The retractor attachment structure is configured for allowing the blade body to be independently pivotable about and translatable along the blade body mounting structure. The blade body surround includes a slot within a sidewall thereof. The blade body surround and the blade body are jointly configured to form a generally cylindrical-shaped structure when the blade body is in a seated position within the slot.
