A relay terminal for relaying communication signals from originator user terminals to destination user terminals stores relay-authorization-and-priority data for a plurality of user terminals having respective identification codes; detects the identification codes in communication signals sent from a plurality of originator terminals; processes the detected identification codes in combination with the stored data to determine if immediate relaying of the received communication signals to respective identified destination terminals is authorized; and relays the received communication signals immediately to only those of the identified destination terminals to which immediate relaying is so authorized. Directional-position data associated with a given originator terminal derived by processing portions of a signal received from such originator terminal is processed to form a beam path for communications with the given originator terminal.

Relayed signal communications

A low-profile antenna includes a ground-plane element defining a ground plane and an elongated radiator element configured and disposed in relation to the ground plane to define a vertical loop when the ground plane is horizontally disposed. A substantial broad segment of the radiator element is parallel to the ground plane. One end of the radiator element is connected to the ground-plane element and another end of the radiator element having spaced-apart legs with feet is capacitively coupled to the ground-plane element by dielectric spacing elements that are disposed between the feet of the radiator element and the ground-plane element. A conductive-material layer contacts the feet between the feet and the dielectric spacing element. An exposed portion of the conductive-material layer that extends from beneath the feet of the radiator element includes removal tabs for enabling the capacitive coupling to be adjusted by removing at least some of the exposed tabs. The adjustable capacitive coupling and the dimensions and configuration of the radiator element are such as to enable the radiator element to resonate within an adjustable band of frequencies within a predetermined range of frequencies. A tuning circuit is coupled to the radiator element for selectively enabling the antenna to transmit signals at a first frequency within the adjustable frequency band or to receive signals at a second frequency within said band. The radiator element includes longitudinal folds distending from the sides of the substantial broad segment.

Low-profile adjustable-band antenna

A multi-band low-profile antenna includes a conductive ground-plane element; a first radiator element mounted on the ground-plane element to define a first vertical loop; a second radiator element mounted on the ground-plane element to define a second vertical loop; and a coupling element mounted on the ground-plane element to define a vertical coupling loop, with one end portion of the coupling element being connected to a feed terminal. In at least one embodiment, the first radiator element and the second radiator element are of such dimensions and are so disposed as to be parasitically coupled to each other, to cause the first radiator element to resonate at a first predetermined VHF frequency and to cause the second radiator element to resonate at a second predetermined VHF frequency. The coupling element is of such dimensions and is so disposed in relation to the first radiator element and the second radiator element as to cause a signal at the first predetermined VHF frequency to be inductively coupled between the first radiator element and the feed terminal and to cause a signal at the second predetermined VHF frequency to be inductively coupled between the second radiator element and the feed terminal. The antenna further includes a third radiator element of such dimensions and is so disposed as to resonate at a predetermined UHF frequency; and the coupling element is of such dimensions and is so disposed as to cause a signal at the predetermined UHF frequency to be inductively coupled between the third radiator element and the feed terminal. A compartment in the ground-plane element encloses circuit components of a communication device connected to the feed terminal.
