Disclosed is a measuring arrangement for measuring the total nitrogen bound (TN) in a measuring liquid, comprising: a radiation source emitting UV radiation; a radiation receiver configured to generate a signal that depends on the intensity of radiation impinging on the radiation receiver; a vessel having a first opening and a second opening opposite the first opening; a first window closing the first opening; and a second window closing the second opening. The first and second windows are transparent to the measuring radiation. The measuring radiation emitted by the radiation source propagates along a measuring path which extends from the radiation source through the first window, the vessel, and the second window to the radiation receiver. The measuring arrangement also includes a heating element in thermal contact with the vessel wall.

The present disclosure relates to a method for metering a liquid into a wet chemistry analytical device wherein a specified volume of individual liquids is placed in a metering unit consisting of a metering container and at least one dose measuring device. During the filling of the metering container with the respective liquid, after the activation of the dose measuring device, an additional volume of the liquid is drawn into the metering tube beyond the position of the dose measuring device, wherein during this procedure and afterwards the status of the dose measuring device is checked, and a conclusion is drawn from this regarding the presence of an air bubble-free liquid in the metering tube.

A method for monitoring the concentration of water borne substances in an aqueous medium, by introducing a defined amount of the aqueous medium into a gas circulatory system of an analytical apparatus which extends through a high temperature reaction chamber and a measuring chamber. The introducing of the aqueous medium occurs upstream of the high temperature reaction chamber or into it. The aqueous medium is evaporated in the high temperature reaction chamber, the water borne substance with at least one reaction partner in the high temperature reaction chamber reacts to a gaseous reaction product, and a current value of a measured variable is registered, which is a function of the concentration of the chemical species of the reaction product in the gas circulatory system. The concentration of the chemical species of the reaction product in the gas circulatory system depends, on the one hand, on a time-dependent state of the gas circulatory system and, on the other hand, on the concentration of the substance in the aqueous medium; ascertaining the concentration of the substance in the aqueous medium by applying the current value of the measured variable, wherein, in the ascertaining of the concentration of the substance in the aqueous medium, the contribution to the concentration of the chemical species of the reaction product in the gas circulatory system by the state of the gas circulatory system is ascertained on the basis of a model of the state, and a correction of the concentration of the chemical species of the reaction product in the gas circulatory system occurs on the basis of this contribution.

Method for monitoring concentration of water borne substance in an aqueous medium

A method and apparatus for automated determining of the chemical oxygen demand of a liquid sample, comprising steps as follows: mixing the liquid sample with sulfuric acid; introducing a carrier gas, especially air, into the liquid sample-sulfuric acid mixture; adding an oxidizing agent to the liquid sample-sulfuric acid mixture to form a reaction mixture; heating (especially under reflux conditions) the reaction mixture at the boiling temperature of the reaction mixture for a predetermined time period; photometrically determining consumption of an oxidizing agent in the reaction mixture; and ascertaining therefrom the chemical oxygen demand of the liquid sample, wherein all steps are automatedly performed in an analytical system with the assistance of an evaluating and control unit.
