Swirl tube separator

A fluid catalytic reactor vessel having at its upper end a single centrally positioned primary cyclone having a gas-solids inlet fluidly connected to the downstream end of a fluid catalytic riser, which riser is positioned externally from a fluid catalytic reactor vessel. The primary cyclone is further provided with a gas outlet conduit at its upper end fluidly connected to one or more secondary cyclone separators, which secondary cyclone separators are positioned in the space between the centrally positioned primary cyclone and the wall of the reactor vessel and which secondary cyclones have means to discharge solids to the lower end of the reactor vessel and means to discharge a gaseous stream poor in solids to a gas outlet of the reactor vessel. The primary cyclone is further provided with a primary stripping zone at its lower end and means to discharge pre-stripped solids from the primary cyclone to the lower end of the reactor vessel. The reactor vessel further comprises at the lower end of reactor vessel a secondary stripping zone is and means to discharge stripped solids from the reactor vessel.

Cyclone separator

There is provided an apparatus which separates and strips catalyst particles suspended in gaseous hydrocarbons after the suspension of gaseous hydrocarbons and catalyst particles have traversed a gas/solids conduit means. A substantially can-shaped open-ended cyclone is placed in a disengager shell such that an inlet of the open-ended cyclone is in communication with the gas/solids conduit means. The disengager shell has a zone for containing a fluidized catalyst and the open end of the open-ended cyclone projects into the zone. Catalyst and hydrocarbon vapors are separated in separator-stripper vessel by a reverse flow separator assembly in a top portion of the separator vessel. The separator assembly contains a shrouded eductor where the particles and gas enter the eductor, and upon exit the gas reverses direction to travel through the passage between the eductor and the shroud, thus causing disengagement of the particles. The gas free of particles then passes out the vessel exit and the particles return to the particle bed in the lower portion of the vessel.

During the depressurizing steps, the kinetic energy represented by fluids flowing from the pressurized lock hopper is utilized to provide power to a pressure recovery means and do additional work.
