Embodiments include methods for a gateway device to selectively forward messages in a wireless mesh network. Such methods include receiving, over one of a plurality of network interfaces of the gateway device, a message published to a group address or a virtual address and retrieving, from a database accessible by the gateway device, unicast addresses of all communication devices identified by the group address or the virtual address. Such methods include, based on determining that all communication devices addressed by the retrieved unicast addresses are serviced by the gateway device, sending the received message on all network interfaces that correspond to the communication devices addressed by the retrieved unicast addresses; and based on determining that not all communication devices addressed by the retrieved unicast addresses are serviced by the gateway device, sending the received message on all network interfaces except for the network interface over which the message was received.

A gateway device and a configuration client for supporting selective forwarding of messages published to a group address or a virtual address in a wireless mesh network of communicatively coupled communication devices, such as a Bluetooth Mesh system. The configuration client maintains a mapping between unicast addresses of communication devices and group and virtual addresses in the network. The gateway device receives, from the configuration client, unicast addresses of those communication devices collectively identified by the group or virtual address in a received message. When the retrieved unicast addresses are all serviced by the gateway device, the message is transmitted by the gateway device on all interfaces corresponding to the communication devices addressed by the retrieved unicast addresses. When the retrieved unicast addresses are not all serviced by the gateway device, the message is transmitted by the gateway device on all except one of the interfaces.

Embodiments support obtaining of information regarding a Bluetooth mesh network () operating according to a set of rules, e.g. flooding or routing, for propagating messages in the network (). It is transmitted (), from said test originator node () in accordance with said set of rules, a sequence of test messages towards said test target node (). Each of said test messages includes: parameters comprising a test message identifier being an identifier of the test message in the sequence, and a type identifier identifying the test message as a certain type associated with said parameters.

Methods and nodes for obtaining information regarding a bluetooth mesh network

A gateway device and a configuration client for supporting selective forwarding of messages published to a group address or a virtual address in a wireless mesh network of communicatively coupled communication devices, such as a Bluetooth Mesh system. The configuration client maintains a mapping between unicast addresses of communication devices and group and virtual addresses in the network. At receipt of a message including a group or virtual address, the gateway device retrieves, from the configuration client, the unicast addresses of those communication devices collectively identified by the group or virtual address in the received message. A method for deactivating a relay feature of a relay node in a mesh network comprising a plurality of nodes, wherein said relay node formulates a connectivity report comprising routing information to a beacon node in said mesh network, said routing information being based on connectivity control messages received from said beacon node. The method comprises the steps of transmitting, by said relay node, said connectivity report to neighbouring nodes, transmitting, by said relay node, a query message to said neighbouring nodes for querying whether said relay feature of said relay node may be deactivated receiving, by said relay node, response messages from said neighbouring nodes, in response to said query message, wherein each of said response messages indicates that said relay feature of said relay node may be deactivated, and deactivating, by said relay node, said relay feature of said relay node based on said response messages from all of said neighbouring nodes. Complementary methods and devices for performing a method according to the present disclosure are also presented herein.

Methods of and device for autonomous configuration of a relay node device in mesh network

A relay node is configured to discover a route between a route origination node and a route destination node in a mesh communication network. The relay node in this regard generates a route request message that requests a route from the route origination node through the mesh communication network to the route destination node. The relay node transmits the route request message via unicast or broadcast, depending respectively on whether a routing table at the relay node has or does not have an entry indicating a known route to the route destination node.
