A rotary disc valve includes a valve housing. The housing includes a valve body having multiple ports and a lid that closes one end of the valve body. In addition, the valve may include a diverter and seal assembly disposed in the housing, the seal assembly providing a seal between the diverter and the valve body. In at least one rotational orientation of the diverter, the diverter is configured to divert fluid flow circumferentially along a first circumferential fluid path portion between a first subchamber and a second subchamber disposed between the rotational axis and the sidewall and divert fluid flow circumferentially along a second circumferential fluid path portion between a third subchamber and a fourth subchamber disposed between the rotational axis and the sidewall. The second circumferential fluid path portion is disposed radially outward with respect to the first circumferential fluid path portion.

Rotary disc valve

A multi-port rotary disc valve includes a valve housing and a diverter assembly disposed in the housing. The housing includes a sidewall, a lid that closes a first end of the sidewall and a base that is disposed at a second end of the sidewall. The diverter assembly is configured to control fluid flow through the valve housing and includes a lid-facing surface, a base-facing surface, and diverter through openings that extend between the lid-facing surface and the base-facing surface. The diverter assembly includes a first pocket that opens toward the lid and a second pocket that opens toward the base. Each of the first pocket and the second pocket may receive fluid flow directed in a first direction that is parallel to the diverter rotational axis and to reflect the received fluid flow in a second direction that is opposite the first direction.

Multi-port rotary valve

A multi-port rotary disc valve includes a valve housing having a sidewall, a lid that closes a first end of the sidewall and a base that is disposed at a second end of the sidewall. A valve chamber is defined by the base, the lid and the sidewall. The housing includes valve ports that communicate with the chamber. A diverter assembly is disposed in the chamber and is configured to control fluid flow through the valve housing. The diverter assembly includes a first part including first through openings and a second part that is axially aligned with the first part, the second part including second through openings. The diverter assembly includes an elastic element disposed between the first diverter part and second diverter part, the elastic element biasing the first diverter part toward the lid and the second diverter part toward the base.

A rotary disc valve is used in a fluid delivery system to control flow of fluid between multiple ports. The valve may include a valve body having multiple ports that are connected to the system. In addition, the valve may include a diverter and seal assembly that are disposed in the valve body. The diverter is configured to rotate about a rotational axis and to control fluid flow through the valve body. The valve is free of an axial compression spring, and the valve body, the lid and the diverter are shaped and dimensioned so that an interference fit exists between the lid and the diverter that results in compression of the seal assembly between the diverter and the base.

A multi-port rotary disc valve includes a valve housing having chamber walls that segregate an internal space of the housing into subchambers that each provide a portion of one or more fluid paths through the valve housing. The valve housing includes valve ports, where each valve port communicates with a subchamber and is an axially-extending through hole that resides in a plane that is common to all valve ports. The valve also includes a diverter assembly that is disposed in one of the subchambers and is configured to control fluid flow through the valve housing. The valve also includes seal assemblies disposed in the chamber so as to be aligned with the diverter assembly along a rotational axis of the diverter assembly.

A rotary disc valve is used in a fluid delivery system to control flow of fluid between multiple ports of a valve housing. The valve housing may include a valve body and a lid that closes an open end of the valve body. In addition, the valve may include a diverter and seal assembly that are disposed in the valve housing. The diverter is configured to rotate about a rotational axis and to control fluid flow through the valve housing. The seal assembly provides a dynamic seal that is fluid tight within a plane that is perpendicular to the rotational axis. The diverter, the valve body and the seal assembly cooperate to define a fluid passageway that is coaxial with the rotational axis and passes through the seal assembly.

Methods of firing ceramic honeycomb bodies are disclosed that include heating the ceramic honeycomb bodies and blocking furnace gases from flowing through the ceramic honeycomb body by placing an aluminum metal layer adjacent an endface of the honeycomb body. Heating removes organic pore-forming material and graphite pore-forming material in the ceramic honeycomb body. The aluminum metal layer oxidizes to form a porous Al2O3 layer after firing to a first temperature, and furnace gases flow through the ceramic honeycomb body.

Honeycomb body manufacturing methods

Methods of firing ceramic-forming honeycomb bodies are disclosed that include heating the honeycomb bodies and blocking furnace gases from flowing through the honeycomb body by placing a layer selected from the group consisting of a graphite layer, a graphite-containing layer, an activated carbon layer, or an amorphous carbon layer adjacent an endface of the honeycomb body. Heating removes organic pore-forming material and graphite pore-forming material in the honeycomb body. The layer oxidizes to form a porous layer after firing to a first temperature, and furnace gases flow through the honeycomb body.

A multiport rotary disc valve includes a valve housing having chamber walls that segregate an internal space of the housing into subchambers that each provide a portion of a fluid path through the valve housing. The valve includes a diverter assembly disposed in a cylindrical first subchamber, the diverter assembly controlling fluid flow through the valve housing. A second subchamber is disposed radially outward with respect to the first subchamber. In some rotational orientations of the diverter assembly, a fluid path between valve ports of the valve housing includes a first path portion that is disposed in the first subchamber and extends axially through the diverter assembly and a second path portion that is disposed in the second subchamber. The valve also includes seal assemblies disposed in housing so as to be aligned with the diverter assembly along a rotational axis of the diverter assembly.

A rotary valve has a valve plug that is rotatable in a valve body about a rotational axis. Surface features of the valve plug and surface features of the valve body cooperate to provide a bearing by which the valve plug is rotatably supported with respect to the valve body. In addition, each of the valve plug and the valve body include a plurality of annular projections that encircle the plain bearing and axially overlap one another so as to form a labyrinth that surrounds the bearing. The labyrinth forms a fluid path that collects abrasive particles suspended in the fluid passing through the valve, whereby wear of the valve is reduced.

A rotary disc valve is used to control fluid flow within a fluid delivery system. The valve may include a valve body having multiple ports that are connected to the system. In addition, the valve may include a diverter and seal assembly that are disposed in the valve body. The seal assembly includes first and second seal subassemblies. The first subassembly has first through openings that are axially aligned with the diverter through openings. The second subassembly is axially stacked with the first subassembly and includes second through openings that are axially aligned with valve body subchambers associated with the ports. A first static seal is disposed between the diverter and the first subassembly, a second static seal is disposed between the valve body and the second subassembly, and a dynamic seal is disposed between the first subassembly and the second subassembly.

A rotary disc valve is used in a fluid delivery system to control flow of fluid between multiple ports. The valve may include a valve body having multiple ports that are connected to the system. In addition, the valve may include a diverter and seal assembly that are disposed in the valve body. The diverter is configured to rotate about a rotational axis and to control fluid flow through the valve body in such a way that fluid enters the diverter in a first direction that is parallel to the rotational axis, fluid exits the diverter in a second direction that is parallel to the rotational axis, the second direction being opposite the first direction, and between entering and exiting, fluid flows over a portion of the diverter outer surface.

A porous ceramic honeycomb body () including intersecting walls that form channels () extending axially from a first end face to a second end face and layered plugs () comprised of a first layer () disposed on channel walls and a second layer () disposed inward toward an axial center of each respective channel on the first layer. A fluid valve includes a valve body and a plug. The body includes a chamber and ports that communicate with the chamber. The plug is rotatably disposed in the chamber, and includes a seal disposed in an annular groove provided on the plug surface. An elastic member is disposed in the groove, and biases the seal against an inner surface of the chamber. The seal includes a seal retaining feature that is configured to retain the seal within the groove.
